Considering camping in Morecambe? How Wise. Naturally, the first thing one should do from a Morecambe campsite is to make for the town promenade and carry out a gleeful skip dance around the statue of comedian Eric, but there are verily several other things to bring you sunshine here once capering around the statue is (temporarily) halted. Island hopping is one of the best things to do in the world anywhere and for always, so we’d spend a couple of days after lazing on Morecambe’s beaches doing just that around Morecambe Bay; windsurfing and kitesurfing around Walney Island and tramping to Sheep, Chapel, Piel and Foulney islands at low tides.

While you’re tramping around at low tide, look out for birds flocking about too: Morecambe Bay is the biggest stretch of intertidal mudflats in the country and is used from autumn to spring by thousands of birds coming home to breed (head to the bird observatory at Walney’s southern tip for the best sights). And bring a fishing rod for sea angling, and a large appetite: Morecambe potted shrimps ae so famous even Her Maj munches them, and the bay is lauded for Morecambe cockles too. How Wise.
