What customers say

Great views of Ullswater, friendly owner Sophie. Spacious pitches with a 'wild camping' feel. Good base for exploring, short walk to a pub. Basic loos. Some mud/noise, but good value, back-to-basics camping overall.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Stunning location ,exactly as described, with great views
On the Aira Force side outside of Pooley Bridge . We came by car having completed the Ullswater Way during the day
Not far to access a spot where you can swim or launch a kayak.
Sophie kept in touch and answered our queries swiftly and helpfully when our plans changed

Local attractions

Drive down to Pooley Bridge (five minutes by car) at the head of Ullswater for yomps along the Ullswater Way encircling the lake. Father south, stop off at the National Trust car park (10 minutes) and walk up to the impressive Aira Force Waterfall, inspiration for the poem ‘The Somnambulist’ by William Wordsworth, written in 1833. Experienced hikers may care to drive to Patterdale (15 minutes) and clamber up Helvellyn for spectacular Lake District views, while others may settle for a stately voyage around Ullswater aboard the historic steamboat ‘Lady of the Lake’ from Glenridding (15 minutes), itself a pretty lakeside village with tea rooms and souvenir shops. Lowther Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) has imposing and photogenic ruins of a massive mansion as well as parterres and parkland to wander, or you can buy marmalade – reputed to be the best in the world – at Dalemain Historic Mansion and Gardens. If you hit a rainy day, catch a film at Rheged (both 10 minutes).
