  • Family-friendly site on a family-run working farm a mile from Orton
  • Between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District; close to the C2C route
  • A five-minute drive from the M6 and Tebay services/farm shop
Moor House Farm Camping is a simple campsite on a large family-run working farm in the Cumbria countryside, just under a mile from the pretty village of Orton. It’s the kind of location that’s likely to win lots of fans: look out over gorgeous views of the Howgill Fells while on site, then easily get out to the village for a pub (a proper country pub with real ales, meals and takeaways), a café, a well-stocked village shop, a play area and a chocolate-maker, plus a farmers’ market (every second Saturday of the month). Orton’s also on the famed Coast to Coast route, so this farm makes a good stopover point for long-distance travellers as well as those who’d like to sample a smaller section. There are peaceful walks and bike rides to be had all around, with the Lake District National Park on one side and the Yorkshire Dales on the other. There’s plenty of space to relax on the farm, where you can watch the cows and sheep grazing in neighbouring fields or make arrangements to play with the lambs and calves. (Please note that life on a working farm does come with a bit of noise from various bits of machinery and the occasional ‘country smell’…). There's a small electricity-generating wind turbine on the site, so for quieter pitches, head to the opposite end of the field from the turbine. Facilities at this site include showers, a toilet block with hot washbasins, hand dryers and an outdoor washing-up area. Electricity for the shower block is provided by an on-site wind turbine. This is an unlit site, so you’ll want to bring along a torch.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Where the field was situated was perfect, middle of nowhere which was just needed. Shower/toilet block better than i couldve imagined. Unbelievably clean and topped up with toiletries. Julie attended where we pitched and made sure we had all we needed and advised us that we could contact herself if we did need anything.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The very friendly welcome and offers to engage the children with the animals on the farm - especially the rainbow sheep! The views were amazing, beautiful spot and lots of things to do in the area, helpfully signposted in the toilet/shower block which was basic but very clean with hot water.

Disliked: The washing up area could benefit from having some sort of cover and potentially hot water but it was dry weather and we just took a boiled kettle with us.
