  • Lake District pop-up site in the foothills of Blencathra
  • Keswick, Skiddaw and Helvellyn all within a 10-minute drive
  • Simple, spacious pitches with a stream for paddling
The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

What customers say

Great views, relaxed vibe & freedom to pick your spot. Facilities are clean & basic, but hot showers are good. Near Keswick & walks. Good value, though limited loos/showers can mean queues. Some slope on pitches & occasional road/camper noise.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked A really great site with a LOT of space.
Absolutely stunning amd lots of space so you're not on top of other campers.
Totally OK to have a firepit which is great.
There was loads of toilet paper and the toilets were lean and looked after when I went in. The showers were hot and reasonably clean too.

Disliked Only 2 male showers and toilets and the same for females. For the size of the site it could do with a few more!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked location was great and the amenities were good. very laid back and chilled.

Disliked is on a steep slope which was annoying at times as things would slide off tables. the road next to it is loud and can make it hard to sleep along with the noise of the stream. only two toilets and showers so often a que. didn’t even meet a single staff member and anyone could pitch anywhere so was very disorganised.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked The location is lovely just a shame about the campsite.

Disliked We contacted the owners prior to arriving because the weather forecast was so bad and we wanted to pitch up earlier to avoid the rain. 3 phone calls later no answer and no way of leaving a message as the mailbox was full. I then emailed them again no response. We arrived to a sign saying if you had paid in advance pitch up anywhere. You could have just arrived and pitched up as we saw no one for the whole time we were there. The field was awful the grass was really long and there were grass cuttings from the last time the field was cut so the grass was everywhere. The facilities were not good. No locks on the toilet and no toilet paper. I knew it was basic when I booked it but there is basic and basic. The weather was that bad we actually left on the Saturday but from start to finish the whole experience at this campsite was awful.
