  • Adults-only site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This adults-only and dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

What customers say

Mostly well-liked, peaceful spot. Reviewers rave about clean loos, showers, rural views & helpful owners. Watch out for the access road, occasional electric glitches & busy period toilet queues. Still developing with ongoing improvements.

Liked Lovely small site . Owner came and introduced himself which was appreciated. Water and hook up on individual pitches.lovely scenery and very secure with electric gate. Loved the goats and chickens living nearby. Will be an even better site when works completed.

Disliked Not a complaint but some works being undertaken to improve site was aware when booking. No disturbance from works and site very tidy. Only thing I would say is better signage for facilities would be good but I'm sure that will be sorted once works completed

Liked Clean and tidy site. Secure. Toilets/showers kept clean. Wide pitches. Electric and water on each pitch. Peaceful site depending on your neighbours!

Disliked Road to site single track and very uneven.
Although toilets were clean they could do with more of them.
We heard banging from people in the glamping pod all night. (We were pitch 1)

Liked This is our second time here as it's local for visiting family and friends in the area.
It's a quiet site but with easy access to the motorway. Pitches are decent size and most now have electric (extra charge after 10kw) and drinking water on the pitch. Showers and toilets are good and were always available when needed.
The host is responsive to calls and messages and is seen regularly around the site.

Disliked Not a dislike, just a note, this site is being upgraded so there's some areas that don't look the best but there is very minimal noise during the day and none at night. It'll be beautiful when it's all done.
The area surrounding the site is all fields so just look at that instead for now.

Liked How quiet the site was. How secure the site is. How easy it was to book and gain entry to the site. . The site is clearly in the early stages of being established so its not perfect and in some area can look a little untidy. However, the facilities were very clean and everything worked. Enough space on each pitch. No problems

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
