  • Family-friendly site in peaceful rural South Yorkshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Yorkshire Wildlife Park; watersports nearby
  • Barbecues permitted on site; pub and shops just a short walk way
It’s all rather peaceful out in the South Yorkshire countryside, where Mooreacres resides. This dog-friendly site has a splendid rural setting in Hatfield Woodhouse, and activities around here are along the lines of gorgeous walks and birdwatching in nature reserves or kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre 35 minutes’ walk away. If that doesn’t sound just splendid already, the centre of the local village is only around half an hour’s walk away. That means that pubs and takeaways are never too far off. Of course, another, rather attractive option is to rustle together your own barbecue (which are handily permitted on site). There are shops in the village for sourcing cuts of meat, buns and other essential ingredients. For those of you who adore a day spent with your fishing rod and family or friends, the village also has several fishing lakes, all within walking distance of the site. The lakes at Hatfield Moors Nature Reserve are just a little further out (just five minutes’ drive, to be exact) and a scenic place for spying on birdlife, including nightjars. When you fancy a drink or a bite to eat and you want it quickly, the closest pub is just 15 minutes’ walk away (they run a carvery and stone-fired pizza for the foodies among you). Plenty of attractions are easy to access too, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and Boston Park Farm (five minutes). Mooreacres has simple facilities. Perhaps most conveniently, these include a modern toilet facility, modern shower room and water points. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads around the site.

What customers say

Peaceful, well-kept site with roomy, flat spots and nice field views. Toilets/showers often called very clean and modern. Owners always praised as friendly and helpful. Some mention ongoing development, but most found it a great base, with a pub nearby. Metered electricity incurs extra costs. Wi-Fi and dog walking routes had a few minor issues raised.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Quiet site and level pitch. OK for an over night but would not want to stay longer. Could benefit from investment in facilities.

Disliked Facilities were poor. Shower in brick building not draining so was swampy in there. Used the portacabin style one but was restructive and no hanging space to keep dry stuff off the floor.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked A very nice, quiet spot with very friendly owners. We felt very comfortable and can recommend the place. Good motorway access.

Disliked The sanitary facilities were clean, but the shower drainage wasn't ideal. I think the new house will be better.

Daisy camping pod (no pets)

Liked Camping pod clean and tidy, lovely quiet site perfectly placed for our visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Extras not advertised as being available, like an electric 2 ring hob. Simple instructions for key collection sent in advance, owners quick to respond to a query. Very happy with our stay.

Disliked No way it can sleep 4 as advertised, the sofa bed is not that much bigger than a standard single. But fine for us as a party of 3.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Lovely clean site with well spaced, flat/level hardstanding pitches in beautiful countryside. Each pitch had electric metered hook up and a water tap.
Facilities were clean with 3 individual cabins with toilet, sink and shower.
Site had water, chemical and grey waste disposal, note there is no vehicle drive over grey waste just a designated disposal point.
The reason I gave 9 stars and not 10 there was a very bright outside light attached to the farm building which was on all night and we were parked right next to it.
I would definitely stay here again.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Spacious pitches. Very level. Quiet campsite. Clean and tidy and Oliver was on hand when needed.
Dog friendly working man's club nearby where u could eat in from the local Chinese. Also another good dog friendly pub close in the other direction.
Basic shower block but adequate and a few toilets again adequate for the site.

Disliked Not enough bins. But they were emptied frequently.

Local attractions

How to kick off your holiday in South Yorkshire? A day out in Doncaster (20 minutes’ drive) to begin with, perhaps? Though it may look small on your maps, Doncaster has plenty of historical sites, including the Doncaster Minster, a Victorian shopping centre, a museum and art gallery and Cusworth Hall Museum & Park (half an hour). The latter has acres of parkland for you to explore, as well as the exhibits inside the historic Grade I-listed building itself. Add a zoo day into the mix with a visit to Messingham Zoo (half an hour), where there are mammals and birds just chilling out. The Brockadale Nature Reserve (half an hour) has more wildlife, this time in a valley habitat that includes around 40 species of birds. If you’re keen to keep on with checking out the local historical sites, Conisbrough Castle (half an hour) is an excellent choice. The novelist Sir Walter Scott was inspired by this place, and it’s easy to see why – the ruins are pretty impressive, but you'll be the judge of that too.
