Our pitch
Pool bridge farm, wild swimming for adults and children a 20 minute drive from site
Dreamers gardens. a ten minute walk from the site through the woods

  • Peaceful dog-friendly site surrounded by the Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to York, the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Castle Howard
  • Walk to the Northwood Trail, a café and restaurant; farm shop nearby
A chilled drink in hand, the Yorkshire Wolds on the horizon and a belly full of fresh farm food grilled on your barbecue… that’s one way to spend an afternoon at Beech Farm. Other ways include hiking out into the Yorkshire Wolds (the site is around 20 minutes’ drive from the Yorkshire Wolds Way for long-distance hikes) or setting about exploring the immediate countryside. A 20-minute drive from York, this is a peaceful escape for any city dwellers… or indeed, a wise spot for those looking to check out its chocolate-making history, historic minster and Shambles shopping street from a base that’s in the countryside. The gorgeous site is half a mile back from a main road and has views across the fields, woods and the distant Yorkshire Wolds. The site is simply a beautiful field with a rustic toilet, shower and wash-up block, so it’s just the place for those seeking a back to basics break and lots of peace and quiet. Handily, dogs are very much welcome too. Yorkshire strolls might be next up. If so, the three-mile Northwood Trail is just 15 minutes’ walk from the site too. On the trail, there’s a restaurant, café and a simple playground. If you’re after more tasty things to eat (or to take back for a barbecue), there’s a farm shop and café five minutes’ drive away (or a 45-minute walk away), as well as a cluster of pubs in Stamford Bridge (five minutes’ drive or 45 minutes’ walk).

What customers say

A tidy, tranquil farm campsite with welcoming hosts. Mostly level pitches, and while facilities are simple, they're kept up well, with hot showers, a kettle, and freezer provided. Guests enjoyed the farm animals and quiet. A few felt toilets lacked privacy and wished for a play area. Great for a chill break, good for local sights.

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked The site itself, fantastic, I cant flaw anything, it was exactly as described. Honestly a brilliant remote place to camp. Staff where brilliant. Seeing the farming equipment when you drive in and out and seeing it in use (Bit gutted we didn't get to see the harvester with the boom out but, cant predict that as someone who knows nothing about farming) Honestly brilliant, Toilets where clean a stocked up, Shower worked quickly.

We even managed to see a falcon about 50ft away from us, and a Murder of about 30 crows eating all the earwigs in the wheat fields.

Disliked If I had to picky about the site, if I really had too, The open top toilet and showers, but I'm really struggling to be that picky.

The only problems I had on this trip was a couple of other campers, Which isn't the sites fault. We had three young women screaming, staring at us as they walked past. They seemed rather inexperienced which isn't anyone's fault we all start somewhere, but a fly landing on you is a normal thing camping, don't wake everyone up because of it. The main problem was there high school popular bully characteristics. Caused quite the upset in our tent at one point. Our neighbours also kept complaining about there behaviour and attitude. Again, That's not a fault of the site though. This happens camping. We even repaired someone's tent that collapsed while they where away and there thanks was "I was just hoping someone else would fix it for me"

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked Location was gorgeous.
Land was nice and flat for tent pitching.
Loved sitting in the evening watching kestrels, rabbits and other animals at sun set.
Very handy kitchen area.
Warm, powerful showers.

Disliked Toliet/shower rooms could have been cleaner/stocked with soap, but very minor dislike. Being extremely picky. Overall, toilet and shower functioned very well.

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked This is definitely a little gem. This has got to be the cleanest farm that I have ever stayed at, and I have stayed at a few. All the facilities are clean and well stocked. The ground is level, the grass is cut and there is no road noise, perfect
Definitely on my return to list

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely field, very peaceful, we had plenty of space, as only 5-6 tents stayed over the weekend. Facilities are basic, but clean. Could hire a fire pit if you didn’t bring one with you. Freezer, hairdryer and kettle available for use. A small selection of snacks was available to purchase.

Disliked Nothing really to report

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely quiet, friendly site with picturesque views. The camping field is well maintained with flat pictures. The facilities are rustic but clean with nice warm showers. We enjoyed the animals including goats and chickens. The hairdryer, freezer and kettle were useful additions. Within easy driving distance of Stamford Bridge and York.

Disliked A mirror within each of the toilets would have been useful.

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked Loved the animals, it was in a lovely spot surrounded by wildlife and nature! The site wasn’t too busy and other guests were respectful of others😊. The toilets and showers were clean and the kettle was a great touch! It was great that you could hire a fire pit, as I love a campfire when away. The gentleman owner dropped the logs off at our tent. Very helpful. Would highly recommend this site to families.

Local attractions

Soaking in some of Yorkshire’s history should be no hard feat around here. Start with the rural side of Yorkshire at Murton Park (10 minutes’ drive), which is a farming museum with 14 acres of playgrounds, animals and historic areas all about Yorkshire farms in the present and past. Castle Howard (20 minutes) is a similar spot with a historic house and estate, playground and walks where the fashionable Howard family have strolled for 300 years or so. Keep up your history-themed tour with a visit to the National Railway Museum York (half an hour) or welcome a bit of wildlife art into your itinerary with a look around the Robert Fuller Gallery Ltd (20 minutes) - and see what inspiration strikes for when you’re relaxing around the green spaces at Beech Farm. Any folk who have come prepared with all their hiking gear and who are itching to get going will get in a good, long hike around the Yorkshire Wolds Way (around 20 minutes), a Wolds trail totalling 79 miles. Failing that, the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes) has a gorgeous set of trails.
