General

  • Activity-packed glamping site in the North Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Lightwater Valley and the Yorkshire Dales
  • Dog-friendly site with on-site pub and communal campfires

Can’t decide between rural activities and much-needed relaxation for your next hols? At Camp Katur you don’t have to – it’s got the best of both at its rural spot on the Camp Hill estate, 15 minutes' drive from Bedale.

There’s a fab assortment of country activities and cultural pursuits to get involved in around the area during stays at this North Yorkshire glamping site (actually, glamping village might be more apt, as it’s huge – 250 acres, to be precise).

Jam-packed days mean hungry stomachs, so come evening, make use of the large clay pizza oven or communal kitchen hut (with gas cookers and a good stack of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans). Then settle around the communal campfires for chats and a tune or two (blankets are provided for cosy alfresco evenings).

Also on site are toilet and shower blocks, hot and cold running water and free wifi by reception. In keeping with the site's eco-friendly ethics, communal areas are lit up by solar-powered lamps.

We had a wonderful weekend and thought the site was amazing. The on site restaurant food was fabulous & we would definitely use it again and the location of the camp is superb for visiting surrounding attractions. It was nice to have our own shower & toilet facilities. We found Jabba to be adequate for 6 of us but thought it would be too small should there have been 8. Other than that everything was wonderful and the staff (twins) were so helpful, hard working and friendly. We will most definitely return.

    Disliked:

We thought that as the porch was very high from ground level it would be of great benefit to install a half step to access it much easier especially when you have luggage in your hands. The only other point to note was that the lighting did not work in both bedrooms which the staff did know about but that also none of the lights worked on the second night including the bathroom.

Very friendly staff! Fab location with loads to do in local area, as well as loads to do in site- my 3 year old loved the huge adventure playground, unique swings and outdoor gym. Accommodation was fab- views of the stars was beautiful. (No light pollution for miles). Complimentary logs for fire pit was the perfect amount to last us the two days and toilet, kitchen and shower had everything you needed other than towels and bedding. I took kitchen utensils etc but it was already all supplied in our accommodation. Communal kitchen (we only used to get drinking water) also supplied things like ketchup and coffee! Bar and grill on site was fantastic and had a little shop in to buy essentials like milk. Really unique experience staying in dome and loads of fun!

    Disliked:

Plastic top of dome meant you could see the stars inside however the only downside was this was really mucky (on the outside) so you couldn’t actually see very well through it- but this wasn’t a big deal as the weather was beautiful so we just sat outside.

The layout was brilliant; so spacious and loads to do for the kids. Space to look at the stars was fantastic. The safari tent had everything we needed.

    Disliked:

There was some off site noise which disturbed us on the last night, but the wardens could not do anything about this and we understood that this was the case.

I travelled as a single mother with a disabled son. The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to support me. They helped me that our belongings and checked up on us over the break. The staff all were really friendly with my son, in particular the staff in the bar area.
The pod was bigger than I expected. It was very warm and we did not need to use the heating. We used the play parks and my son enjoyed these. As well as this we watched a movie in the barn/bar area.
The sight was so peaceful, it was beautiful waking up to the sound of squirrels collecting acorns.

Throw a bit of culture into the mix with a visit to Fountains Abbey (half an hour) to admire the ruined – but well-preserved – Cistercian monastery. In terms of natural creations, marvel at the balancing rock formation Brimham Rocks (40 minutes) or head out for a hike in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (around 20 minutes away).
