  • Activity-packed glamping site in the North Yorkshire countryside
  • Yoga classes, crafts, wine tasting and bird experiences available
  • Barbecue pod, clay pizza oven, kitchen hut and communal campfires

Can’t decide between sociable activities and much-needed relaxation for your next hols? At Camp Katur you don’t have to – it’s got the best of both at its rural spot on the Camp Hill estate, 15 minutes' drive from Bedale.

There’s a fab assortment of country-style and cultural pursuits to get involved in during stays at this North Yorkshire glamping site (actually, glamping village might be more apt, as it’s huge – 250 acres, to be precise). Hawk walks, owl encounters, yoga classes, craft days, life drawing classes, cocktail making, wine tasting… all can be sorted here (minimum numbers apply and certain activities for adults only – please enquire on site).

Jam-packed days mean hungry stomachs, so come evening, make your way into the woods to rustle up barbecue fare in the Norwegian Grillokota pod (fondly named 'The Podfather'), or make use of the large clay pizza oven or communal kitchen hut (with gas cookers and a good stack of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans). Then settle around the communal campfires for chats and a tune or two (musical instruments are provided, as are blankets for cosy alfresco evenings). There’s a communal tipi too, if you’re looking for somewhere under cover, as well as plenty of sheltered seating and eating areas.

Also on site are toilet and shower blocks, hot and cold running water and free wifi by reception. Communal areas are lit up by solar-powered lamps.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site gates open at 7am and close at 10pm. Access outside of these hours requires a key code, which is issued on request.

There are no power points available in the glamping area. Solar-powered lighting is provided around the eco toilet blocks, but please bring a torch.

The Thorp Perrow Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre and Big Sheep Little Cow farm attraction are both around 15 minutes' drive away to entertain animal-mad guests.

For some more extreme thrills, Lightwater Valley Theme Park (20 minutes) has plenty of rides to suit all ages. Kids (and big kids) can also blow off steam at The Forbidden Corner (40 minutes), which has a labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, statues and buildings to explore, all set within a four-acre garden.

For something a bit calmer, Ripon Spa Gardens (20 minutes) is a pretty park for a long walk, or try the spectacular gardens at Newby Hall & Gardens (half an hour), along with the Georgian house, teddy bear and doll exhibits, a kids’ playground and mini railway.

Throw a bit of culture into the mix with a visit to Fountains Abbey (half an hour) to admire the ruined – but well-preserved – Cistercian monastery. In terms of natural creations, marvel at the balancing rock formation Brimham Rocks (40 minutes).
