  • On a small working farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • A 10-minute walk to the famed Sutton Hoo National Trust site
  • About a 10-minute drive to Woodbridge and Rendlesham Forest
A melodic name isn’t all Sutton Hoo has going for it… this site on a small working farm among free-range chickens is also less than a 10-minute walk from Sutton Hoo. You'll have heard of that of course: the splendid Anglo-Saxon ship burial where a warrior king lay for 1,400 years, and hailed since its discovery in the 1930s as one of the finest archaeological finds anywhere in Britain. Trips down memory lane are all around the local area too, as the park's in the age-old Suffolk Coast and Heath Area of Natural Beauty, and a 10-minute drive from the Woodbridge Tide Mill on the River Deben, one of the last in the world still churning up flour using time-honoured techniques. Visit to learn about the process through interactive activities then ply the streets and traditional stores of the pretty riverside market town of Woodbridge – it’s got a butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer (as well as more modern amenities like a supermarket, coffee shops and clothes boutiques). Get your supplies from these local producers then tote it back to the park and cook it up on the campfire while the kids and dogs run around on the big grass field opposite. And if you're after more historical expeditions once fully fed? Orford (20 minutes’ drive) and Framlingham (25 minutes) both have castles to check out, while the coastal and woodland walks near the site are sure to have you harking back to simpler times. One tree-lined place for a wander close by is Rendlesham Forest a 10-minute drive away, which is well worth a visit for its play areas, picnic spots and bike park, as well as its orienteering trails and horse riding paths.

What customers say

A well-kept, quiet spot with roomy, flat sites, many private. Clean, modern facilities and handy on-pitch water/power. Great location near Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge. Friendly owners, family vibe with playground, fire pit hire available. Minor road noise noted, but guests love it and want to come back.

Fully-serviced grass and sand site

Liked This was a lovely setting . The pitch we had was a good size, level and there were lots of woodland trees behind us giving a very countryside feel. The showers were hot and had a good pressure. There was a small hut near the entrance to the site with a freezer, socket for charging mobile phones and an electric kettle - ideal if you aren't on electric hook up. There was also some information about the local area. We were roadside and there was a bit of traffic noise but nothing that disturbed our sleep.
The owners were very helpful and replied to my emails very quickly.

Fully-serviced grass and sand site

Liked Used to pitch tent for first time last minute booking. Arrived and sign on board showed allocated pitch. Easy to get to site, toilets were clean and pitches good size.

Disliked Road side pitches picked up noise particularly in morning from a relatively busy road. Not a huge issue though.

Fully-serviced grass and sand site

Liked We especially liked the location of the site in relation to our visit to Sutton Hoo
The site was informal and relaxed, and the pictures were of a good size
The facilities were good and modern
The cost of staying there was excellent
We will return to Sutton Hoo again and would stay there
I would also investigate what local facilities there are near there to try to stay longer
We normally stay on membership type sites but this reminder does very much so of when we first started camping sat outside your tent listening to kids play and families talking all very convivial

Disliked A tiny bit of road noise, but we were at the back of the field

Fully-serviced grass and sand site

Liked Good facilities, relaxed, nice location, peaceful yet not isolated, showers and toilets good, allows fires, no complaints especially for the price, very friendly owners, WiFi was good but dropped in and out, small trees around each pitch makes them cosy

Disliked Showers could do with a bench or rail to avoid getting clothes wet

Fully-serviced grass and sand site

Liked Lovely site,in a really lovely part of Suffolk. Toilets are clean, pitch level and grass short. Water and electric at each pitch. Each pitch has hedges both sides for privacy. Excellent wifi. We felt safe there as owners live on site.Although we are only a couple,we don't mind family sites, but this site seemed to keep the families one end and couples the other end. There are some beautiful walks from the site, and a pub not too far away. There is plenty to discover in the area.Play area for children.

Disliked The only thing I didn't like was, the chemical point. I'd like the wash down hose to be slightly away from the emptying point, so it can't get splashed. Having said that, I didn't use the hose, simply filled a spare container of water to rinse the cassette. So no problem really.

Local attractions

Once you’ve had your wander in the woods, the water awaits: the River Deben is just the spot for fishing and sailing less than 10 minutes’ drive away. You can also hire rowing, sailing and canoeing boats and explore the islands and waterways of Thorpeness (30 minutes) and its mere or switch to the artsy coastal town of Aldeburgh (25 minutes’ drive) for strolls on the North Sea sands, catching flicks at the century-old cinema and jaunts up the old Martello Tower. Another scenic seaside village is Southwold further on at 45 minutes from the park with its Victorian pier and classic white lighthouse. And if you're into twitching? The coastal birding spots of Minsmere and Dunwich are both 40 minutes’ drive.
