  • Well-maintained, landscaped adults-only park near Polstead in Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Lavenham, and 25 minutes to Ipswich Waterfront
  • Essentials shop on site; food pub five minutes’ walk away
Its rural location on the edge of a Suffolk conservation area ensures visitors to Polstead Country Park have plenty to do during their stay. The pretty village of Polstead is five minutes’ drive away, and walkers have access to a network of footpaths from there, taking in ancient woodland scattered with bluebells in spring, while overnighting cyclists can pick on the South Suffolk Cycle Route with a 10-minute ride from the park. If you've brought the car, your options widen even further – animal parks, stately homes and beaches are all within half an hour’s drive. Landscaped with flowers, neat hedges and shady mature trees, the pitches at this adults-only site are generously sized and immaculately maintained. Spotless modern facilities include shower facilities with underfloor heating and a dedicated accessible bathroom, while washing-up sinks and a laundry area make it easy to keep everyone and everything looking shipshape. The friendly staff at reception can let you have all sorts of information on the local area and places to visit, and there’s also a small site shop stocked with essentials. If you fancy a break from cooking, there’s a foodie pub within five minutes’ walk and other options in Polstead village.

What customers say

Adults-only campsite, loved for spotless facilities, welcoming staff, and tranquil vibe. Private pitches with hedging get a nod. Perfect rural spot for walkers/cyclists, with pubs nearby. Minor road noise and dated showers noted, but still highly recommended, with many returning guests.

Liked The campsite is beautiful and kept in excellent condition.
The toilets and showers are clean and heated which makes all the difference when showering, plenty of hot water. Love the radio playing some great tunes !!!
The owners are very friendly and helpful.

Disliked We were at the back of the campsite which backs onto a fairly busy road. However it wouldn’t put us off from using again.

Liked Beautiful site! Well kept pitches and spotless facilities keep us coming back to Polstead. Surrounding countryside is so peaceful and there are lovely walks to explore straight from the site. Nearby pub, The Cock Inn, serves delicious food and the staff are so friendly.

Liked Good sized pitches, was able to be sited with friends we traveled with, good facilities. Pub 5 minute walk away does great Sunday roast.

Disliked The men’s shower cubicles not the cleanest I have used, they need a good deep clean and some serious limescale treatment. Site not looking its best mainly due to heatwave but surrounding trees and bushes looking a little overgrown. Were kept waiting on arrival didn’t appear to have our booking when met at gate. Came here last year and was much slicker organsation.

From the manager: Thanks for your review , sometimes the bookings are slow to come through so apologies if you where kept waiting a few minutes until we found you on the system . The toilets and showers are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis and we can have over a 100 people a day using the facilities!

Liked Good level pitch, friendly fellow in reception.nice to be able to get an ice cream on a hot day.

Disliked Bit of road noise. Scratched down one side of my van on conifer tree due to limited space between trees exiting pitch 30 of the Paddock. No wi fi coverage on the pitch either

Local attractions

Pretty Suffolk villages to explore include Kersey (five minutes’ drive) with its half-timbered houses and thatched cottages, while Lavenham (20 minutes) has a stunning guildhall and fine 14th-century church. For a bit of a date night, Ipswich (25 minutes) has lots of bars and restaurants along its lively waterfront, as well as a theatre and cinema. There are pretty country yomps along the River Stour to Flatford Mill (25 minutes) and Dedham Vale National Landscape (20 minutes) in Constable Country. You can see another artist’s house on the walking trail from National Trust-owned Melford Hall (20 minutes) to Sudbury (15 minutes), which takes in three old water mills and Thomas Gainsborough’s house en route. Looking for animal encounters on your rural break? Feed lambs (in season), groom horses and cuddle up to friendly donkeys at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, or get up close to the reptiles, creepy crawlies and butterflies at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (both half an hour). Or how about touring a couple of local vineyards? Giffords Hall (half an hour) and Burnt House (45 minutes) are both open for tours and tastings – it’s best to book in advance.
