  • Spacious Norfolk farm site on the edge of the Broads National Park
  • Beaches and Norwich city centre around 20 minutes' drive
  • Laidback pick-your-own pitch site with firepits provided
The Broads, the beaches, the buzzy city of Norwich… whatever it is that’s enticed you to Norfolk, you’ll be in a handy location when you stay at The Old Vicarage Campsite. This spacious and laidback site is in a rural location five minutes’ drive from Acle, on the edge of the Broads National Park and about 20 minutes’ drive from both Norwich and the Norfolk coastline. There’s heaps of space at this farm site, but not heaps of guests – numbers are always kept on the lower side so that everyone has plenty of space to set their stuff up as they like, and to relax and/or play games. It’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup here, so friends and families can pitch up close together while others seek out a more secluded spot elsewhere around the two-acre site if they like. Kids, dogs, groups, barbecues, awnings, outdoor tables, badminton nets… this is a chilled-out site where you’ll be able to bring whoever/whatever you like (within reason…) Campfires are a must, of course, and they’re made nice and easy with the provision of ‘Bernie Brazier’ firepits for keeping warm or cooking on the hotplate. The one thing that’s not allowed at the pitches is cars, to help keep the place peaceful and safe for everyone (especially free-roaming kids). Wheelbarrows are provided to help you cart all your kit from car to pitch, and can occasionally be handy for transporting tired kids too. Other facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area.

What customers say

A tranquil, rural getaway with spacious pitches and modern amenities like hot showers & USB ports. Enjoy a 'wild camping' vibe with fire pits for hire. Friendly hosts (and a cat!) await, though some noted road noise.

Liked A great site, tucked away in some lovely countryside. Friendly owner who let me put my motorbike next to my tent, much appreciated. Good facilities and very peaceful. Loved it.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked A really nice site for simple camping with a tent. It’s a big space, some nice areas of long grass and hedgerows round the edge. The toilets were clean ( it’s the non flush compostable toilets) and the showers were perfect. There is an area to charge your phone and a small freezer. Half hour drive to stunning beaches, we also enjoyed a day trip to Norwich.

Disliked Although you are in the middle of nowhere it struck me how little wildlife there is - more of the state of the Uk countryside, but no dawn chorus, like most farming areas a wildlife dessert. At night an industrial sounding fan can be heard - I couldn’t hear it in the day, it’s not loud but must be from some unit beyond the fields. Otherwise no complaints.

From the manager: Hi Fibula, thank you taking the time to leave a review. As it is late on in the season, and the driest summer on record, this August has not been the best time to hear the dawn chorus. If you want to hear it in full swing I invite you visit us in May and June. And yes, the fields are bare after harvest and everywhere is looking very dry and crispy this year. A lot of the wildlife has retreated to cooler woodland areas nearby. We've been waiting for rain which has now arrived, and I started planting our winter crops on Monday so things will be coming back to life again soon!

Liked Great family-friendly campsite

We really enjoyed our stay here! There was lots of space, which made the campsite feel relaxed and comfortable. The toilets and showers were clean and well looked after, which is always a big plus.

We also really appreciated the freezer and washing-up area, as well as the charging points — all very handy and made our stay much easier.

Our child especially loved the friendly camping cat, which was definitely one of the highlights! 🐱

Overall, a lovely, clean and well-equipped campsite. We would happily stay here again!

Disliked No blame for campsite, but fire-pit ban ruined late evening vibes.
And we didn’t bring our BBQ as was expecting to get it from site, so had to cook everything on the gas stove.

The showers were great aswell they got warm quickly and had good pressure
Also how calm it was in the area of where the campsite was felt very peaceful

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Very relaxed and peaceful site with well maintained facilities and some good suggestions for places to visit (I went to Holt which wasn't on my original plan, and loved it). Great location for exploring the Broads, visiting Norwich and the coast.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked The location is excellent if you are looking for a rural campsite, the fields are large and we had lots of space around us, the showers and toilets were clean and well maintained, there was a sink to wash up and power points to charge, it was a lovey stay at the Old Vicarage.

Disliked Due to the weather and it being so hot unfortunately we could not have a firepit for a few nights, for H&S reasons, not the owners fault at all and he communicated really well.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked What a gorgeous campsite.
Off grid for the weekend
Only five of us on here
Camper and have a pitch just inside the field so the field isn’t driven on
The campers are given a wheelbarrow to bring their camping things in
The kids love the wheel barrows

The showers are rustic and water warm ( we had a glorious weekend weather wise )
The toilets are a shovel saw dust over your number 2 but well maintained

We were able to have a small fire due to the house fire pits. Logs £6 a bag.
They have an in house resident cat called sprout who adores everyone
And a doggy ( think it’s a Jack Russell ) comes to say hi too.
Washing up facility but no toilet waste disposal…. So if you poo you take it home :) which we did.

The field is well spread out
There was five of us and we all had our own space but people were friends and always stopped to say hi as did the owner too

We came 29/31 May for two nights £48 for the weekend.

Reedham and acle close by
Acle bridge is a definite pub to visit for the food people and the broads

Disliked No shops on site
This isn’t a dislike, this is to make other campers aware to bring all you need
Nothing else to dislike :)

Local attractions

As you’re just on the edge of the Broads National Park, it makes sense to start there – perhaps, with a walk, a bike ride, a boat trip or a canoe tour to see some of the watery scenery. Popular hubs for all of this include Reedham (10 minutes’ drive), Upton (10 minutes) and Salhouse (15 minutes). Wroxham is about 20 minutes’ drive away and there are family attractions nearby like Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (10 minutes) and BeWILDerwood Norfolk (25 minutes). There are plenty of options around for sandy beaches too – from Gorleston-on-Sea (20 minutes) up to Sea Palling (half an hour). Horsey Gap (half an hour) is often a good place to spot seals, while Great Yarmouth (15 minutes) is well known for its traditional seaside amusements. For a day out in Norwich, it’s about a 25-minute drive or you can take the train or bus from Acle. The city has lots of historic buildings including the castle and cathedral, and plenty of more modern attractions too.
