  • Family-run site with several fisheries within a 15-minute drive
  • Epworth five minutes’ drive; Cleethorpes beach 45 minutes
  • Dogs welcome and barbecues allowed; shower and toilet block
For a holiday that might keep a family with a diverse range of interests happy, take a look at Epworth Fields Holiday Park, a five-minute drive from the Lincolnshire town of Epworth. This family-run, back-to-basics site is surrounded by spectacular countryside laced with miles of footpaths. However, its main draw is arguably its proximity to dozens of fisheries, including Lindholme Lakes Country Park, Kathleens Carp Lake and Alderfen (all within 15 minutes’ drive). If angling for carp is not your thing, there is still plenty to commend this site. Fancy a day at the seaside? Cleethorpes beach, on the Lincolnshire coast, can be reached in about 45 minutes. Here you can relax on the sand with an ice cream, or have a go at paddleboarding, kayaking and other watersports. There are also traditional British seaside attractions like donkey rides, arcades and a pier, plus the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. Barbecues are allowed on site, and you can purchase provisions in Epworth, where international restaurants and traditional pubs can also be found. In addition to a washing-up area, the site has a toilet block and showers, plus chemical disposal facilities and recycling points. And the cherry on the cake? Epworth Fields has a strict quiet policy, so you can catch up on your sleep without having to worry about loud music being played at odd times.

Local attractions

Staying close to base, dozens of fisheries are easily accessible from the site, such as at nearby Lindholme Lakes, with eight pools for match and pleasure anglers, 450 available pegs and a tackle and bait shop. The historic town of Epworth just over a mile away was the birthplace and childhood home of Methodist Church founder John Wesley, who was brought up in the Old Rectory. Guests can visit the Rectory these days to see how life was lived in the early eighteenth century; a Wesley Trail is also in town. A few excellent theme and family parks are within easy driving distance of Epworth Fields Holiday Park: the theme park, zoo and conservation area of Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire's Kirby Misperton; Sundown Adventureland for the under-tens, based at Retford; the farm animals, indoor play area, horse liveries, tearooms and maize maze of Boston Farm Park, and the 300+ animals of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park at Doncaster.

Liked: Lovely, clean field. Quiet, beautiful surroundings.
I could see that there were more facilities but we were out of the busy season so understood why they were closed (cafe).

The kids loved playing in the surrounding bit of woodland.

Disliked: Nothing
