Pebbly Barn Farm: Racehorses enjoying their summer holiday on the site

General

  • Peaceful, dog-friendly farm site two miles from Moreton-in-Marsh
  • A 10-minute drive to Sezincote Estate; half an hour to Blenheim Palace
  • Firepits for hire; walks, cycling and pubs nearby; barbecues allowed

Step into the splendid Gloucestershire countryside and set up camp just two miles from the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With Pebbly Barn Farm as your base, fab far-reaching views are a given, as is a warm welcome into a peaceful retreat where well-behaved dogs are welcomed on leads and adventures in the Cotswolds are within easy reach…

Once you’ve pitched up your tent in the roomy fields here, set off on the walking and cycling trails in the surrounding area (some of them begin very close by). You could make off to Moreton-in-Marsh's antique emporiums, tearooms, art galleries and delis, half an hour’s walk away, or time your visit right for the town’s Tuesday open-air market. With the Four Shire Stone on the outskirts of the town, another option is standing in the old meeting point of the four counties of Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire (cool, huh?)

There's also plenty of scopes for tasty dinnertimes, with cafés, restaurants and pubs (including a couple rumoured to be past haunts of the author J.R.R. Tolkien) on the town high street and barbecues permitted on site (on a proper stand to protect the grass). As for when the sun goes down, there are firepits for hire on site.

The facilities here include toilets, showers and a handy dishwashing area, all close to the peaceful pitches. And though it may be rural, you won't be cut off here as Moreton-in-Marsh’s train station has routes to London and Cheltenham and bus services go to many Cotswold towns and villages.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

We have just come back from a wonderful 3 night stay at Pebbly Barn Farm, over the bank holiday weekend. I cannot speak highly enough, it was spacious and peaceful; the facilities were top notch and the owners really attentive.

It was our first time camping with 3 young children and they had space and freedom within a fairly enclosed space to just “be” and it was fabulous.

We hired the fire pit and logs which were delivered to our tent and collected again on departure day.

It was just as we imagined and will definitely be back next year.

The site was clean and tidy. Great staff and space for the children to roam. Service from James was brilliant. I'd recommend staying at Pebble Barn to anyone.
We were welcomed on site by James and John. Both friendly and informative to all our questions.
Washroom, toilets and showers were always clean. Fantastic hot shower too!
Fire pits available and were delivered as promised.
    We loved our stay.

    Disliked:

Could do with extra showers and toilets but as the site wasn't busy we didn't ever have to wait long.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments and so glad you loved your stay. We plan to have more facilities in the future

Great value for money, lovely spacious campsite in quiet location with good facilities. Flushing toilets (x2) with sinks and running water and a modern shower - all with lighting and kept to a good standard. Owners very organised, polite and friendly. You can park your car next to your pitch.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately there was no hot water on the day I visited which was a surprise in the shower! However, owners very kind and came round apologising to everyone in the morning. If the campsite is busy, you will likely have a wait for the toilets/shower.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback. I believe the hot water was back on very soon after it was reported. We managed numbers to ensure very short waiting times in busy periods.

Local attractions

Where can a 10-minute car ride get you? It turns out, a lot of places. There’s the dog-friendly plant centre and café at the 56-acre Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre (10 minutes’ drive), flying displays from falcons, eagles and other birds of prey at the Cotswold Falconry Centre (10 minutes) or the splendid 18th-century gardens at Bourton House Garden (10 minutes).

Sezincote House (10 minutes) is another of those close-by spots and a rare authentic Mughal palace with a house and tea room – get there on foot if you wish by following the local Moreton Eight walk near the site.

With the World Heritage Site of Blenheim Palace (half an hour) and the National Trust’s Chastleton House (10 minutes) close by too, there are many more options to have a nose around additional historic buildings.

When you’re ready for some animal life, Cotswold Farm Park’s rare breeds, outdoor play and bouncy pillows (20 minutes) are likely to be a hit with the kids, or perhaps a peaceful picnic by the river Windrush in Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) will do, with Birdland the prize attraction here.
