  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: This was a pleasant site in the Cotswolds about 5 mins drive from beautiful Stow on the Wold.
We were given instructions in advance of arrival as to which part of the field to pitch in but could choose the spot. We didn't book an electric pitch but if you did then these are clearly marked on the board as you entered with a name against the pitch number. The very friendly manager popped over for a chat after we arrived to make sure we had everything we wanted and gave us a bit of information about the site and the area. There were lovely views from the top of the site. There was wifi up by the club house but not on the pitches.
Toilets and Showers were clean and checked twice a day. The club house bar was available to use but we didn't use this so don't know what it was like. There was also a small coffee horse box open in the car park. There was a very good pub about a 10 min walk via a footpath from the top corner of the field serving great food and local beers.

Disliked: It wasn't the flattest site we've stayed on - but this is the Cotswolds, it's the price you pay for staying in this lovely area!

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: Location within walking distance on paths or lanes of Stow on the Wold.

Clean toilets and toilet block.

Disliked: Lack of privacy between pitches.

Sloping site. So bring leveller ramps.

The clubhouse and bar were not open.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review. we're slightly bemused by the comments regarding the privacy, its unusual to find private pitches on an open campsite in our experience & the pitches are spaced in accordance with Camping club minimum standards, so we're not sure what is meant by this.

Our rugby clubhouse is currently undergoing a large renovation, however our upstairs bar is open, with the opening times displayed on the board in the information area in the clubhouse lobby along with all the other information. Currently we are not open every day as the cost of bar staff seriously outweighs the level of use the bar gets, however we open in accordance with out stated hours & increase the times the bar is open when the level of guests dictates.
The renovations will be complete next week & we will be open for drinks & if ordered with notice, food also.

Thanks for staying with us.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review.

We're sorry you found the facilities too small, however they are standard event unit sizes which most people find acceptable. The showers have temperature controls & are checked twice daily.

Price wise, we are the most competitive priced site in the area & we keep our prices under review & will do so going forward.

Lovely big site in a central location. Would definitely stay again.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: The location of the site was great. Easy walking distance to Stow on the Wold via the side roads. A 10 minute walk to the nearest village with a great pub. A very friendly welcome on arrival and by the ladies looking after the club. Great views from the site.

Disliked: Nothing much. I’m not putting down picky things for the sake of it.

Liked: Open space and good area

Disliked: You could have stayed for free, no one to check in with, club house was closed the whole time didn't seem like there was anyone even working on site. Most of the time the toilets were dirty and bins over filled, deffo looked better in the pictures

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us, we're sorry you don't appear to have enjoyed your stay.
The site is manned by volunteers as to employ staff would mean significantly increasing our prices, however, our staff visit the site at least twice a day & its made clear on the booking acknowledgment that there is a phone number to contact if needed. we don't take cash on site for this reason, hence all bookings through Pitchup. We would point out that there was someone on site all weekend as we are undergoing a large renovation in the clubhouse & our chairman was on site most of the time & made a point of seeing as many visitors as possible.

The toilets & showers are cleaned twice a day, & the times shown on the displays in the units, its not always possible to keep each unit spotless all the time as people use the facilities at variable times.
The upstairs bar was open most evenings, opening times are shown in the information area in the rugby club lobby, with a large sign advising.

We're sorry you didn't appear to enjoy your stay, we'll take your comments on board & do our best to improve visitor experience.
