Liked: Location within walking distance on paths or lanes of Stow on the Wold.
Clean toilets and toilet block.
Disliked: Lack of privacy between pitches.
Sloping site. So bring leveller ramps.
The clubhouse and bar were not open.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review. we're slightly bemused by the comments regarding the privacy, its unusual to find private pitches on an open campsite in our experience & the pitches are spaced in accordance with Camping club minimum standards, so we're not sure what is meant by this.
Our rugby clubhouse is currently undergoing a large renovation, however our upstairs bar is open, with the opening times displayed on the board in the information area in the clubhouse lobby along with all the other information. Currently we are not open every day as the cost of bar staff seriously outweighs the level of use the bar gets, however we open in accordance with out stated hours & increase the times the bar is open when the level of guests dictates.
The renovations will be complete next week & we will be open for drinks & if ordered with notice, food also.
Thanks for staying with us.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review.
We're sorry you found the facilities too small, however they are standard event unit sizes which most people find acceptable. The showers have temperature controls & are checked twice daily.
Price wise, we are the most competitive priced site in the area & we keep our prices under review & will do so going forward.
Off level pitches, untidy toilets, no staff

Liked: Open space and good area
Disliked: You could have stayed for free, no one to check in with, club house was closed the whole time didn't seem like there was anyone even working on site. Most of the time the toilets were dirty and bins over filled, deffo looked better in the pictures

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us, we're sorry you don't appear to have enjoyed your stay.
The site is manned by volunteers as to employ staff would mean significantly increasing our prices, however, our staff visit the site at least twice a day & its made clear on the booking acknowledgment that there is a phone number to contact if needed. we don't take cash on site for this reason, hence all bookings through Pitchup. We would point out that there was someone on site all weekend as we are undergoing a large renovation in the clubhouse & our chairman was on site most of the time & made a point of seeing as many visitors as possible.
The toilets & showers are cleaned twice a day, & the times shown on the displays in the units, its not always possible to keep each unit spotless all the time as people use the facilities at variable times.
The upstairs bar was open most evenings, opening times are shown in the information area in the rugby club lobby, with a large sign advising.
We're sorry you didn't appear to enjoy your stay, we'll take your comments on board & do our best to improve visitor experience.

Liked: Great views and good local dog walks
Lots of room for kids to play
Friendly manager
Great coffee from trailer with cakes
Bar was open
Clean loos
Disliked: Struggled to get caravan to level due to slowing down and sideways and all pitches sloping so need levelling blocks but some available on site
Rule of dogs on keads needs to be managed as we have reactive dogs and young kids and numerous people let their dogs roam about !

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us & leaving a review.
We have a public footpath running through the site & whilst we have signs asking people to control their dogs we don't have the power to insist on walkers having their dogs on leads.
The site policy, as set out in the site information, is that whist we don't insist on leads, we ask that dogs are kept under control. We will do our best to police this further & will review our rules if required.

Liked: Toilets and shower block very clean when we arrived.
Disliked: The pitches are at a slope
When we arrived no one around and a 'where to pitch ' notice board didn't have our names on, there is no reception and no one around to help.
We then discovered a public footpath runs right in front of the pitches so had people walking dogs going very close to us with their dogs sniffing around our things.
The chemical waste disposal point is very badly designed and right next a pitch .
On our last night the camping field in front of our pitch hosted a teenager group. Im not sure how many but several cars and vans and many many tents taking over the field..unfortunately they used the water tap behind our motorhome do their washing up and have water fights . The whole field was full .
Making using the showers and toilets impossible due to the ques
They were all gone in the morning ( and did leave quietly) but we would have left early if we had known groups of children like that were allowed at the site.
Our overall impression.....
If you just want a cheap basic place to stay this fits the bill .. apart from not being cheap .. there are better places cheaper ..

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & leaving a review. We're sorry you appear to have had limited enjoyment when you stayed.
The teenagers staying over night we part of a Duke of Edinburgh scheme that hundreds of children enjoy & which encourages them to get out & about in the countryside & as a sports club we encourage their use of our facilities which we let them have for free. I was on site most of the day & some of the evening & the campers I spoke to seemed to be happy that they we're not casing a disturbance. Their staff supervisors are under strict instruction to respect other guests. Their pitches were confined to the bottom of the field so a long way from the electrical hook up pitches. They are hear for 3 days only during the spring half term.
The chemical waste disposal point is clearly marked & is at least 40 metres from the nearest pitch, I'm assuming you have confused the static caravan we have on site as a pitch, however the static us used purely for storage. There is a footpath through the back of our site which is clearly marked so could be avoided.
The reception area is clearly signed in the clubhouse although we don't have a full time reception. The site is run by volunteers, there is a host of information in the reception area, along with a clear phone number in the reception area, displayed on the welcome board & also on your booking reference, so help was easily at hand.
We're sorry you didn't appear to enjoy your stay, our prices are the cheapest in the area which reflects the nature of our site & offers good value we believe.

Liked: The location was beautiful, with lovely views. It was quiet and easy to find. A good sized pitch with electric hook up for our campervan with clean basic facilities. There are several good pubs within walking distance from the site and picturesque walks. The town is several miles.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & leaving a review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay, we would just advise that Stow on the Wold, the main town is only 1.5 miles away, & takes about 30 minutes to walk to from the campsite, & rather than direct people along the busy road we advice a nice walk through a small village called Maugersbury which has a foot path to Stow. details of local walks are in handouts available at the information point in the clubhouse.
Many thanks for visiting Stow RFC!
