Overview of the site
Grass pitches

  • Gloucestershire farm site with views of the Malvern Hills
  • A 10-minute drive to Tewkesbury; 20 minutes to Gloucester Cathedral
  • On-site café and occasional restaurant; firepits for hire
Located in the Severn Vale, Elmwicke Campsite has fabulous views of the Malverns and Bredon Hill in Gloucestershire. This is the place for all adorers of animals, as it’s set on a working farm with a flock of Jacob sheep, a herd of rare-breed Gloucester cattle, and the Pygmy goats Mabel and Martha, plus Bacon the pig. Site owners and carers to all those animals, Jon and Ruth are fourth-generation farmers and you’ll see them at some point during your stay, whether that’s welcoming you in, delivering wood, cleaning the facilities or having a good old natter. The site is a seven-acre, flat field where you can choose your own pitch, and stay together if you’re with friends or family. There’s plenty of space for games of cricket, rugby, football, rounders or flying kites. With men’s and women’s loos, the amenities block has showers and a family room with baby-changing facilities. To help you with keeping everybody clean and tidy, there’s also a laundry area with a washing machine. An on-site café is open for breakfast rolls, pastries and fresh coffee (note that all breakfasts must be ordered the night before) to get you going in the morning, and on some nights, you can eat at the pop-up restaurant. If you’d rather be self-sufficient, barbecues are allowed on site, and you can order meat packs (subject to availability) from the farm, as well as hire firepits and buy bags of wood, which are delivered daily.

What customers say

Immaculate facilities, friendly owners Ruth & John, and spacious pitches are highlights at Elmwicke. Kids love the tractor rides. Cafe's breakfast rolls are a hit. Mostly relaxing, though some note distant motorway hum. Highly recommended for a return visit.

Liked The owners were super friendly, greeted us when we arrived and explained where the facilities were etc (which were clean, well presented and easily accessible). We loved the view from the site and the horses in the next field.

Disliked The farm track leading towards the field was quite worn with a raised centre, meaning our car (which was full of camping gear and 3 people) did scrape on the uneven road surface.

Star gazing - we saw loads of shooting stars.
Good location for water activities - visited Croft farm water park and Cheltenham lido nearby.

Disliked Nothing really but would recommend a torch when walking across the field at night. There are deep lines in the ground across the site that you would want to avoid when walking at night.

Liked The space, the toilets and showering facilities. The dish washing area, the washing machine, fridge and freezer. The owners are absolutely lovely. The disabled toilet/shower area was a bonus for us.
The tractor ride on Friday night for the kids. The chilled out feel of the whole place. Only a short drive into Gloucester Centre.

Disliked Can't think of anything. It's a great site.

Liked I cannot say how much we LOVE Elmwicke camping. We literally live 20mins away, yet it’s like stepping into another world. Jonathan and Ruth are amazing and the site is simply brilliant. The field is clean and even at max capacity, never feels overcrowded. The facilities are excellent and always clean and fresh. It’s big clear skies, flat level grass and simply brilliant all round. Simply amazing!!!!!

Liked Amazing facilities, best I’ve seen. Very clean toilets and showers, lovely washing up room with washing machine and fridge freezers to use.

Plenty of space and a lovely big field for the kids, enough distance to not hear other people’s camps.

Disliked The sound of the nearby M5, it was windy so we were possibly unlucky with the wind carrying the sound. I didn’t notice it during the day, but at night I could hear the distant rumble and found it annoying. The rest of my party weren’t bothered though.

Local attractions

Gather the kids up for games of mini-golf at Sherdons Golf Centre’s Pirate Adventure (five minutes’ drive), or let them have a look at the Harry Potter film locations in Gloucester Cathedral (20 minutes). They can follow treasure trails at Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean (both 50 minutes), where you can also hike forest paths or up the activity levels and get some cycling in. Keen for more exercise? Have a go at skiing or tubing at Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre, or head for Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham (both 25 minutes), with its gorgeous Art Deco architecture and two outdoor pools to cool off in on sunny days. Mooch around indie shops in Tewkesbury (10 minutes), where you can also visit the historic abbey, grab an ice-cream or relax on a boat trip along the Severn and Avon rivers. Mellow-stone Cotswolds towns to add to your itinerary include Broadway (half an hour) for its delightful architecture and design museums, and Stow-on-the-Wold (40 minutes) for its cracking selection of antique shops.
