Buxton, Derbyshire, England
Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch
Liked Perfect and peaceful site in the Peak District with magnificent views. Great location for driving to Buxton, Bakewell etc and good cycle routes in the area. Whole site maintained beautifully. A good little shop and also a coffee van on site that turns into a bar in the evening with very reasonably priced drinks and a nice outdoor seating area. Nice hot showers with constant running water in spotless facilities which smell lovely with Hartington Hills signature reed diffusers. Fish and Chip van visits a couple of times a week and although it’s a bit of a wait, the food is excellent. Caravans, campervans and Motorhomes round the perimeter of site all fully serviced with tents with electric hook up in the middle. Separate field at top of site for children to play and let off steam next to stables for Shetland ponies. Great welcome pack given on arrival.
Disliked Nothing - couldnt fault anything!

Liked Good communication. Pre arrival info, which means you can go straight to your pitch. Friendly staff. Peaceful and spotless site. Modern toilets and large showers. Good vend facilities and milk machine. Great location for Chesil beach and Weymouth. Good pub, farm shop with cafe and bus stop just over the road. This was our 3rd stay.

St Agnes, Cornwall, England
Harleys Field fully-serviced grass pitch
Liked Quiet location with great views towards St Agnes and amazing cliff top path walks accessed from site.
Huge pitches
Lots of different fields each with its own vibe.
Friendly helpful wardens
Pizza van one night a week.
Good location to visit other areas of Cornwall.
Disliked Wasn’t really too much of a problem but the drain on our fully serviced pitch was uphill so needed to use our grey waste container, but at least it was only a few yards to take it to empty.

Liked Second weekend stay at Portesham dairy farm and everything was just as perfect as our first stay. Excellent communication ahead of stay meaning you get your pitch number the day before so don’t need to check in. Great facilities. Massive showers, hot water a plenty. Great pub 5 min walk away with excellent food and lovely farm shop opposite for delicious full English in the morning. Weymouth and Chesil beach both a very short drive away. Can’t fault this site.
Disliked Nothing - except having to come home

Burton Fleming, East Yorkshire, England
Electric grass touring pitch
Liked Lovely view, looking out across fields with a small herd of cows in the next field. It’s a small quiet site, the grass is kept low with wide firebreak areas between pitches of longer grass. It felt we had lots of space. You are just left alone to get on with it which has pros and cons- It was great to be able to just pick our pitch, but as we arrived a bit early we were unsure of the process as there is no reception area. Also for campervans, they would need to leave something to mark the pitch when going out for the day I guess, or run the risk of someone else pitching in their spot. There are 3 small shepherd huts on site that each have shower toilet and sink, nice unlimited hot water too!
This is a lovely location to visit Bridlington, Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood Bay etc. Whitby, the North York Moors and York are all about an hours drive. There is nothing in the village though, the pub has closed down and the nearest corner shop is about 10 mins drive away.
It was very windy during our stay and we were unable to use our porch awning or to have a BBQ or cook or sit outside, which was a shame because of the great view. Nothing that can be done about the weather of course but as the site is quite exposed I suspect it might always seem a bit windy and for that reason we probably won’t return.
Disliked Not a dislike as such or an issue for us- but something for others to bear in mind. We booked this through Pitch Up as an adult only site but it was not. Many of the other pitches had children.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch
Liked Friendly welcome despite quite a late arrival (6:30pm). We had only booked as overnight stop on way north so didn’t really take full advantage of water hook up on fully serviced pitch and didn’t explore what else there is to do in the area - but obviously it’s great for fishermen! Good security - need a key fob to open gates £20 deposit. Great shower and toilet facilities with lots of hot water. Adult only site - Few seasonal pitches with friendly residents. Very grateful to our nice neighbour who helped me to hitch after my husbands back went on our journey up and he couldn’t bend! Good value too. Would def visit again

Salhouse, Norfolk, England
Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch
Liked Lovely location, good for exploring the Broads, Beaches and Norwich. On arrival we were told to just select whichever pitch we fancied and were given advice on direction of sun rise and set. All pitches were electric hook up and middle row pitches shared a water tap between 2. Site was peaceful with a very chilled vibe and mood lights in the trees at night. Trevor asked if everything was ok whenever we saw him and everyone was very friendly. We were very lucky with the weather too which made for a perfect stay. Toilets and Showers are unisex and look newly built. Good wash up area too.
Great Cafe on site with Terrace with wonderful views which was open 9-4. Excellency breakfast and Brunches. It was very popular. There is a farm shop, great butchers and other shops including florist, vintage clothes and furniture/home accessories in the barn too, which is still being further developed. The bus stop for buses to Norwich is just outside the site and tickets are just £2 single - cheaper to buy 2 singles we were told.
We had fun (?!) hiring a canoe at Salhouse Broads just a 5 minute drive away.
Would def recommend this site which is adults only.
Disliked Not a dislike and not an issue for us but for information there are only 2 showers which might mean a wait if the site was very busy.

Darwen, Lancashire, England
Electric grass pitch
Liked Loved the pre designated pitch allocation which means you can just drive straight to your spot and pitch on arrival. Great communication beforehand too. We were first time caravaners and had booked a grass pitch but the weather beforehand (and during our entire stay) was appalling and we were offered another all weather pitch before arrival - if we wanted it.
If you don’t mind a bit of travelling, the site is a great location for trips to Manchester - about 40 mins by train. We also did a road trip to Liverpool (about an hour). The Yorkshire dales and Peak District are also manageable with journey times of about an hour or so (depending on traffic obviously). Locally there is some lovely countryside just round the corner too.
We didn’t eat out locally very much but had a great tandoori mixed grill at Anaz Indian Restaurant in Darwen - great service there too!
The site itself was quiet during the week but busier at weekends. There are toilets and showers on site that are kept spotlessly clean and a dish washing area, plus usual chemical and grey waste and drinking water points. There is a children’s play park in the middle of the site. Eggs are sometimes for sale just outside the gate and an ice cream visits each day.
The showers are operated by £1 coins (£1 buys you 5 mins). As most people on site are either in a motorhome or caravan - they have the ability to shower in their own unit. But we liked the option of paying for a nice long hot shower when we wanted and thought it was good value.
This is a simple site, which is well run with a light touch.
Disliked Nothing really - other than the weather.

Liked Location, quiet pitch, good toilet, shower and wash up facilities. Nice Pizzas from van outside. Friendly management. Ability to order bread and pastries.
Disliked Bar - we couldn’t figure out the procedure. Only open 2hrs 6-8pm. Was told it was outside table service only but waited 20 mins and nothing happened and as only 5 mins then left till closing we gave up.
Shop had extremely limited stock.

Electric grass tent pitch
Liked It is difficult to find fault with the site really. The location is superb and sea scape and sun sets can be outstanding. The site is well maintained and well managed and the facilities are kept very clean. Whilst the showers could probably do with updating they were spotless at all times and functional. The on site catering vans were popular, hygienic and seemed to be well run offering a good choice throughout the day.
Disliked I feel it’s probably unfair to the site to mention this in the dislikes, as it’s an issue that is beyond the control of the site managers, however I include it as weather conditions impacted significantly on our stay and the stay of our ‘neighbours’ who were in tents and I feel that future campers should be aware, so they can make an informed choice. There are few sites with such spectacular, panoramic and unbroken views of the sea as this one and naively we had not fully bargained on the pay off. The wind that hit our tent was relentless for most of our stay, even when wind speeds were forecast at just 11 mph, and were barely noticeable off site, the effect on site had a massive impact on us and became overwhelming and exhausting. We found that for the 9 days we stayed we were unable to sleep much during the night due to the wind noise, movement and fear that our tent would become unhitched (we had secured it really well and our constant vigilance meant it didn’t). This became very draining over time and on two days of our stay we were afraid to leave the tent unmonitored, and clearly neighbours felt the same. As I say, the site can do nothing about this and there is no criticism against them intended, but we wanted to highlight this to potential campers. We would not return unless we had a caravan in tow, but in a caravan we would return without any hesitation.

From the manager: Thank you. Our thoughts exactly with regard the weather. We try to be as honest to all customers and the research certainly pays off. With the weather, we can give forecasts, the BBC and other weather apps are good, but the weather is changeable most of the time on the coast. Look forward to seeing you in your tourer or one of our new for 2022 hire fleet.
