Lovely campsite with great facilities, close to Ironbridge!

Sept 2026

Liked We spent a wonderful weekend camping here in a tent, and it proved to be a brilliant location for exploring the historic Iron Bridge and surrounding area. Finding the site was straightforward, though as other reviews have noted, the access road up to the campsite is extremely bumpy, so you definitely need to take it nice and slow in your car. We arrived ahead of the official check-in time, so reception was closed, but a handy phone number was displayed to call. This caused no trouble at all; we were warmly welcomed and told we could pitch early. Guests are allowed to choose their own pitch, all of which are wonderfully flat. Even better, each pitch comes with its own fire pit, and wood is available to buy directly on-site for cosy campfires in the evening. Later in the day, the owner came round to check that everything was okay and to tell us all about the facilities, including the on-site Wi-Fi, which was a lovely, personal touch. While cars are not permitted on the camping field itself, the site provides the most amazing wheelbarrows to easily transport your gear from the car park to your pitch. The entire campsite felt quiet, tranquil, and offered stunning views. Best of all, every camper on-site was respectful of the established quiet times. The facilities were exceptionally well-maintained, featuring separate ladies and gent’s toilet and shower blocks. The ladies block was equipped with 3 toilets and 3 showers, they were spotlessly clean, well-lit, and provided reliable hot and cold water. There was always plenty of toilet paper, and an unexpected bonus was the inclusion of a hairdryer. The washing-up area features 2 sinks with hot and cold water. There is also a freezer store for ice packs and a charging area to keep your phones powered up. There is also a small kids' play area on-site. Overall, Irongorge Camping is a peaceful, well-equipped, and scenic retreat with fantastic customer service. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Shropshire!

Disliked We honestly could not fault anything.

A quiet, remote campsite with unbeatable access to Pendle Hill

Aug 2026

Liked We spent a wonderfully peaceful Friday-to-Sunday weekend camping break at Whitehough Outdoor Centre The campsite is remote, wonderfully quiet, and relaxed, offering free choice of where to pitch your tent. While much of the field is sloped, there are flatter areas along the top perimeter and down at the bottom near the facilities. We opted for a scenic spot at the top under the trees, though do bear in mind this area attracted quite a few flies—pitching down near the bottom might be a better choice if you want to avoid them! With only three other tents on-site, the atmosphere was tranquil. Everyone strictly observed the quiet time between 10 pm and 8 am, meaning absolute peace with zero noise or light pollution to interrupt the starry nights. There was a tree swing and football nets for children, but as we were clearly a middle aged couple, the other campers were exceptionally considerate, checking in to ensure their kids weren't disturbing us and asking permission before letting their dog off the lead. Central to the field is a handy covered concrete area equipped with a couple of picnic tables and a firepit. The toilets and showers were kept very clean, and there is a dedicated washing-up area (though note that there is no hot water available) and plenty of bins. The site manager was camping on-site all weekend and was wonderfully friendly and helpful throughout. The location is a fantastic base for exploring the local area. It's ideally placed for visiting Barley to walk up Pendle Hill and explore the Sculpture Trail, with plenty of other great walks right on your doorstep. While there are no shops within walking distance, Barrowford is a short drive away with a Booths supermarket, heritage centre, memorial park, and lovely walks, while Burnley is just six miles away for larger supermarkets. Highly recommended for nature lovers and walkers seeking peace and quiet and we will definitely be back.

Disliked A bit confusing on arrival where to go as the pin drop takes you to the centre car park rather than the camping field car park and there was no one in reception, however, the site manager was on the field to direct us. We had received an email at 11.11am with information pack and map of the centre, but as we arrived about 12pm we didn't see this until after we'd set up so it would have been better to have received this the day before. Also not being able to park by the tent (we did know this when booking but thought we'd be able to drive onto the camping field to drop kit off and then park in the car park) however wheelbarrows were provided to carry everything.

A Slice of Heaven in the Peak District!

Aug 2026

Liked Camping just how it should be! If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle and experience true peace and quiet, Lathkill Wild Campsite delivers on every front. This site offers a wonderfully authentic, off-grid feel without sacrificing essential comforts. While the site is remote, it was remarkably easy to find using the precise pin drop provided in the booking confirmation email. Upon arrival, we were free to choose our own spot across a few different fields. Even though the campsite was quite busy, the layout is so expansive that everyone had an incredible amount of space with plenty of distance between pitches. Being completely surrounded by rolling fields and hills made sitting outside the tent an absolute joy. The atmosphere was pure heaven: completely free from light and noise pollution, and filled with respectful fellow campers. (Bonus points to the vigilant farm owner, who swiftly stepped in when a group lit a campfire!) The facilities are well-maintained and practical. There are three individual, very clean flushing toilet cubicles complete with sinks, plus a men's urinal. Just remember to bring your own toilet rolls and hand soap. Drinking water taps and huge rubbish bins are also conveniently located on-site. Its location is a fantastic base for exploring. We took a short trip a couple of miles away to Magpie Mine, a fascinating and remarkably well-preserved disused lead mine. We also explored the nearby charming town of Bakewell, with it's amazing old church high on the hill and a great walk along the river with it's many geese and swans which was simply beautiful. Unfortunately, we were only there for one night, but we would definitely go again. Whether you want to hike local history or simply sit back and soak in the breathtaking views, Lathkill Wild Campsite is a phenomenal choice. Highly recommended!

Disliked If we had to pick one downside, most pitches sit on a slope, meaning you need to be mindful of where and how you pitch your tent. However, this is quite typical for traditional farm campsites so was nothing unexpected.

Easy check in. Great location, close…

Sept 2024

Liked Easy check in. Great location, close to LLandudno. Unlimited space for the pitch, peace and quiet, no noise or light pollution. I've seen a lot of bad reviews about the toilets, no they're not 5* but they were functional and clean , with hot water and plenty of toilet paper.

Disliked Dog mess behind our tent (not campsites fault)

Quiet site with amazing views

Aug 2024

Liked Amazing views from the top field we were in, but be aware it slopes as it’s on an hill, but worth it for the views. Unlimited pitch size. Very quiet and peaceful and totally dark which was great. Good base for walking and exploring. Good traditional basic camping in great surroundings for a good price.

Disliked Lack of signage/information on site. First field was full except from a space in the corner. Noticed that someone was walking up a hill and followed them to discover another field. The space where we were originally going to camp was actually the access to the fields up the hill.
