nice quiet site, plenty of room…

Sept 2026

Liked nice quiet site, plenty of room for my tent (3 man but only me in it). Facilities were excellent. There are 2 blocks on site. Each has mens and womens toilets, showers, disabled facilities, and a bathroom with a bath which surprised me a little - perfect for those on hike to sooth sore muscles. These blocks also have drinking water taps externally, washing up facilities with liquid in dispensers. And for those with pooches a "paws for a rest" stop with water for them to drink. Reception has a number of where to go/what to do leaflets available for those like me who don't plan details. Friendly staff who were very helpful. A small part of this has groceries for sale in case of emergency (don't break glass just ask). There is also an after hours reception across from the main one which has much the same leaflets available and a few board games and other bits. Having walked through the grounds on my first evening I cut through the play area which has the usual swings, sturdy climbing frames (kids don't let dad on). I didn't hire a fire pit as I had other things going on in Edinburgh and beyond but they were in use and those sat around them looked glowing and happy. All really good for everyone. More so if you enjoy peace and quiet.

Disliked My one gripe, it is a small one, the showers in the mens toilets didn't have a shelf to put wash kit on. The end one has a high window ledge that was handy so this shower seemed to be in greater demand. As I said it was a small gripe and to be fair I've struggled to find anything that was really wrong on site. One thing that may be helpful would be to advise visitors to walk on the roads towards oncoming traffic and in single file. The roads are typical country roads, tight bends and narrow. One evening my return could have ended in an accident as two visitors were walking back to the site with their backs towards oncoming traffic and in double file. Having to drive around them put largely in the way of oncoming traffic with a tight blind bend ahead. Safety is key to any good holiday and this may help others enjoy their time as much as I did.

Excellent in every way.

Sept 2025

Liked Location, space of each pitch - plenty of room for a family tent and a car, cleanliness of the site in general. The staff are excellent, relaxed and welcoming. Very efficient when dealing with customers - had my welcome pack ready along with a pile of others, pitch already allocated (oddly this was the same as my previous visit and hopefully my next visit). Drinking water and electric at the pitch was so helpful. Although I didn't use the TV room or the kids play park - too old for the latter, too tired to concentrate on the former, they were available and seemed to be well kept. Close enough to Edinburgh to find your way without a satnav. I do recommend using the park and ride at Islington as it's cheap, gives access to the city and beyond, and the fares are capped for both trams and buses linked together making transport easy and relaxing.

Disliked My only dislike was leaving but life beckons until next time.

Liked Site excellent. Showers and toilets clean. Staff very friendly. Scenery gorgeous. Drinking water and electricity to every pitch was very helpful. Directions to park and ride were perfect and simple. Certainly recommend using the tram system as it's smooth, simple and cheap.

Disliked Nothing

Great site, friendly relaxed staff, very relaxing. Highly recommend.

Liked Friendly, clean, beautiful site. If you're happy to have the basics of toilets, showers, kitchen area and are on a budget this is the perfect site for you. The walks around the park are breathtaking in every sense. The flora and fauna were superb (except for one grey squirrel who had a mischievous side). Plenty to do on site with Go Ape, adventure playground, shops etc. The history of the park is there to see with old buildings extremely well renovated.

Disliked The site isn't open for a long enough period. I'd be back again this year if it had a longer season. The hills! I know nothing can be done about them and they are part of the charm but my legs and feet haven't stopped complaining yet!
