What a whale of a time will be had at Camping Moby Dick near Catalonia's Girona. For it's in a lovely locale across from the Spanish seafront, and only 100 metres or so from a scenic and sandy Spanish beach in the quiet coastal town of Calella de Palafrugell: if you yearn for the Costa Brava without heaving crowds, this should be a serene spot for you. Camping Moby Dick is small, rural and family run, welcoming families, solo wanderers and groups of friends, and with a peaceful vibe for chilled Costa Brava days. Pitches are on terraces on a small hill shaded by mature oak and pine trees, and some have sea views. The site is all set up to have most of what you'll need to stay put for quiet days, with a bar-restaurant, a TV room, a playground, a ping pong table, and a grocery shop selling fresh bread and fruit. The modern amenities include toilet blocks, showers and a laundry room.

Cracking spot, close to the beach, shops, and town. Peaceful and shady with decent loos. Showers could do with a spruce-up. Watch out for hills and tight access. Ant issues and lumpy pitches were noted. Grand location, though, most would go back.

Liked Location to town for the beach, bars and restaurants. Good toilet and shower facilities.

Disliked Small pitches and difficult to manoeuvre large vehicles around the site. A long way between electric hookup points so needed to get extension from reception (paid refundable deposit). Expensive site but it was high season.

Liked la ubicación es muy buena , las vistas al mar , el trato en recepción , agua el la propia parcela, mucha sombra , parcelas planas y limpias .

Disliked el acceso hasta las parcelas caminando un poco dejado, en las duchas poca ventilación .

Liked We hadden een prachtig plekje bovenaan zodat we mooi konden kijken. Het was nog heel rustig waardoor we direct naast ons geen andere campinggasten hadden . Dat was heel prettig . Als het vol staat sta je best dicht op elkaar .
Het zwembad was ook heerlijk , hier namen we even een verkoelend duikje als we naar zee waren geweest en weer naar boven , naar de camping , waren gelopen.
Omdat wij helemaal bovenaan stonden zijn onze kuitspieren weer goed getraind 😁
Het restaurant op de camping was ook heel mooi . Hier hebben we alleen een keer ontbeten, dit was prima .
Callela de Palafrugell is een erg gezellig en charmant badplaatsje.
Wij raden het zeker aan .

By bus: From Barcelona and Gerona, take a SARFA bus. By train: The closest train station is Flaça; however, the site team suggests customers travel to Gerona and get a SARFA bus or a taxi.

Local attractions

The eight (!) award-winning beaches of Calella de Palafrugell around Camping Moby Dick should keep sand and serenity seekers content for some time, but if you want to up the watery ante at any point, you can join the diving school at Port Pelegri beach, hire kayaks at Canadell beach, or take a sailing excursion from the beach of Port Bo – or do the whole heap in between sandy days on beach towels (recommended). Two walking trails to take you round the area are within easy reach of the site, one from Sant Roc to Golfet beach, and another from the centre of Calella de Palafrugell to the village of Llafranc. For cycling, access the local Via Verde, connecting Saita Margarita to the village of Palamós, a tiptop stop in itself for its swimming, sailing and windsurfing bay. Garden fans will go gaga at the nearby and famed botanical gardens of Cap Roig, spreading down terraces from the castle of the Cap Roig estate to the sea and lauded as one of the very best gardens on the whole of the Med. Spanish and international artists exhibit their works at the gardens during the summer months.
