What a whale of a time will be had at Camping Moby Dick near Catalonia's Girona. For it's in a lovely locale across from the Spanish seafront, and only 100 metres or so from a scenic and sandy Spanish beach in the quiet coastal town of Calella de Palafrugell: if you yearn for the Costa Brava without heaving crowds, this should be a serene spot for you. Camping Moby Dick is small, rural and family run, welcoming families, solo wanderers and groups of friends, and with a peaceful vibe for chilled Costa Brava days. Pitches are on terraces on a small hill shaded by mature oak and pine trees, and some have sea views. The site is all set up to have most of what you'll need to stay put for quiet days, with a bar-restaurant, a TV room, a playground, a ping pong table, and a grocery shop selling fresh bread and fruit. The modern amenities include toilet blocks, showers and a laundry room.

Great location near beach and town. Friendly welcome, shady pitches with water. Quiet and good value, but washrooms are dated/poorly lit. Hot water for dishes and steep pitch access can be tricky. Can be crowded in peak season.

Liked Les salles de bain sont rudimentaires et je n'ai vu personne les nettoyer durant mon séjour. Par contre le camping est à 3min du centre ville et de la plage et nous avons eu un très bon accueuil. Le prix est très attractif !

Liked Warm welcome, Acsi site, heated pool (already open!) and spacious pitch. Midweek was lovely and quiet. Nice clean toilets and showers. Cracking views from some pitches too.

Disliked Showers, although seemingly adjustable were too hot.

Liked La poca luz, nos gustan los campings donde se puede estar integrado en la naturaleza con la luz suficiente. Los árboles, es como dormir en medio de un bosque, y la limpieza de los baños y de las instalaciones en general. También la amabilidad de la recepcionista.

Liked Me gustó muchísimo la cercanía del camping a la playa, la limpieza general del camping y sobretodo lo espaciosos que son los terrenos. Si vas con tu perrito el trato es muy bueno también.

Disliked No me gustó la poca luz que había en las zonas de tiendas ya que el camino hacia los lavabos era oscuridad total.

By bus: From Barcelona and Gerona, take a SARFA bus. By train: The closest train station is Flaça; however, the site team suggests customers travel to Gerona and get a SARFA bus or a taxi.

Local attractions

The eight (!) award-winning beaches of Calella de Palafrugell around Camping Moby Dick should keep sand and serenity seekers content for some time, but if you want to up the watery ante at any point, you can join the diving school at Port Pelegri beach, hire kayaks at Canadell beach, or take a sailing excursion from the beach of Port Bo – or do the whole heap in between sandy days on beach towels (recommended). Two walking trails to take you round the area are within easy reach of the site, one from Sant Roc to Golfet beach, and another from the centre of Calella de Palafrugell to the village of Llafranc. For cycling, access the local Via Verde, connecting Saita Margarita to the village of Palamós, a tiptop stop in itself for its swimming, sailing and windsurfing bay. Garden fans will go gaga at the nearby and famed botanical gardens of Cap Roig, spreading down terraces from the castle of the Cap Roig estate to the sea and lauded as one of the very best gardens on the whole of the Med. Spanish and international artists exhibit their works at the gardens during the summer months.
