  • Direct beach access; Souss-Massa National Park an hour’s drive
  • Fully-serviced pitches; restaurant, shop and swimming pool with slide
With a truly spectacular setting on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Camping Wassay Beach in Morocco’s Souss-Massa region is just the spot for a relaxed seaside break with the kids. It’s easy to get to from overseas as well, being handily located just 53 km/33 miles from Agadir–Al Massira Airport. And there’s way more going for this site than mere stunning sea views. Should you ever tire of swimming in the waves, head to the pool, equipped with a waterslide for the kids and a sun deck for topping up the tan. Keep up your fitness regime in the gym before replenishing energy levels over tasty local dishes in Ibis Chauve café-restaurant (takeaways are available as well), which has a terrace overlooking the beach. The site also has a well-stocked supermarket so you don’t have to wander away from home base for all your shopping, and there’s a pétanque court for showing off your gamesmanship. A collection of other amenities includes modern showers, a TV room for quiet downtime, a play area for younger guests, 24-hour security and a laundry service.

Local attractions

Thrill-seekers can simply step down to the beach, where there are facilities for surfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding in the Atlantic Ocean. Explore the best of the Massa region on quad bike or four-wheel drive tours into the Sahara and race over sand dunes, or see the landscapes from a different vantage point with a balloon ride over the desert (35 minutes’ drive), especially dramatic at sunset. Head to the biodiverse Souss-Massa National Park (an hour) to (possibly) spot the rare bald ibis or see flamingoes stalking the wetlands; you may catch sight of oryx – endangered antelopes with magnificent and lengthy horns – and gazelles too. If you’re looking for unusual souvenirs of your sojourn in Souss-Massa, it’s best to browse the local markets – you’ll turn up spices, textiles, embroidered slippers and brightly painted ceramics in the traditional Sidi Ouassay souk, about five minutes’ walk away. Alternatively visit a Berber village in the national park to experience the regional culture and buy your reminder of Morocco straight from local artisans.
