Explore the best of the Massa region on quad bike or four-wheel drive tours into the Sahara and race over sand dunes, or see the landscapes from a different vantage point with a balloon ride over the desert (35 minutes’ drive), especially dramatic at sunset.
Head to the biodiverse Souss-Massa National Park (an hour) to (possibly) spot the rare bald ibis or see flamingoes stalking the wetlands; you may catch sight of oryx – endangered antelopes with magnificent and lengthy horns – and gazelles too.
If you’re looking for unusual souvenirs of your sojourn in Souss-Massa, it’s best to browse the local markets – you’ll turn up spices, textiles, embroidered slippers and brightly painted ceramics in the traditional Sidi Ouassay souk, about five minutes’ walk away. Alternatively visit a Berber village in the national park to experience the regional culture and buy your reminder of Morocco straight from local artisans.
