Good things come in petite packages in Luxembourg (perhaps not surprising given the country’s pint-sized proportions). And one of those good things is the Mullerthal, also known as Little Switzerland – a peaceful place that’s a haven for walkers, cyclists and generally outdoorsy types who hike through the hills and roam along the rivers. On the banks of one of those rivers, the Sûre, and in the village of Dillingen is where you’ll find family-friendly Camping Wies-Neu. From here it’s an easy ride to the walking and cycle paths that network the region, and it’s even easier to launch a canoe out on to the river, cast your rod out in search of fish or just plonk yourself onto an inflatable and float gently down the river. If you’ve brought your small fry along, there’s a playground to keep them busy, and an entertainment team who keep the place gently abuzz with a hum of activity, including crafts, volleyball matches and table tennis tournaments by day and bingo or karaoke after hours. There’s also a popular church service held on site every Sunday morning. Any immediate nibbling needs can be taken care of at the site’s snack bar, with the shop also on hand to provide all sorts of useful bits and bobs from breakfast bread rolls to beers to accompany your evening barbecue.

Disliked L odeur insupportable dans les toilettes. Pourquoi ne pas utiliser des produits nettoyants et désinfectants.

From the manager: Merci d’avoir pris le temps de laisser un avis. Votre description nous a beaucoup surpris et ne correspond, sur plusieurs points, pas à notre perception de la situation.

Nous ne pouvons notamment pas comprendre le reproche concernant un accueil moqueur, voire méprisant, envers les clients francophones. La personne que vous désignez comme « Mamie » est elle-même francophone, et nous connaissons notre étudiante comme une jeune femme aimable et respectueuse.

Nous ne pouvons pas non plus confirmer votre description concernant les sanitaires. La propreté et l’hygiène sont très importantes pour nous et font l’objet de contrôles réguliers.

En revanche, nous estimons déplacées les remarques personnelles concernant notre collaboratrice et sa famille, ainsi que les conclusions qui en sont tirées. Les critiques factuelles et concrètes sont bien entendu toujours les bienvenues.

Liked Heureusement, un monsieur plus âgé a été à notre écoute et arrangeant.

Disliked Nous avons franchement été mal accueillies, la fille de l'accueil soit disant étudiante a été très désagréable, par 2 fois. Elle changeait d'attitude à notre contact, le fait que nous soyons francophones peut être....à savoir
Nous en avons fait la remarque.
Les sanitaires sont négligés, manque d'hygiène, cheveux, poils......

Liked Great location with good size level pitch. The toilet block was good and kept clean. The site is next to the river and great for a swim and dog friendly. Plenty of good walks in the area.

Liked Beautiful setting on the riverside. Great hiking from the site.

Disliked Lack of information and poor grey waste disposal facilities…..a smelly drain at the side of the road near reception.
Extremely busy, but to be expected in the height of summer. Our pitch was right next to the fresh water tap so there was a constant stream of people using the tap and emptying their washing up bowls etc.
Absolutely no WiFi signal.

Local attractions

Pottering, pedalling and paddling are all popular picks around these parts. Hardcore hikers might want to tackle the 112-kilometre Mullerthal Trail (or part of it), while cyclists in Little Switzerland have the choice of four mountain bike routes and a more placid selection of (mainly flat) national cycle routes to take them out through the wildflower meadows. For aquatic antics, there’s a canoe and kayak rental place five minutes’ walk from the site; a popular route is the 12-kilometre paddle along the Sûre river to Echternach. Meanwhile, treetop trails for adults and kids are at the Indian Forest in Vianden, 20 minutes' drive, and you can chill down afterwards with a swim in the pool over in Beaufort, five minutes from the site. Venture up to Vianden for the day (20 minutes away) to take the chairlift up to the castle and then stroll on down to the Victor Hugo House or the cartoon museum. Castle collectors should also pay a visit to the châteaux in Beaufort (10 minutes away) and Larochette (20 minutes).
