- Family-run site set among six hectares of landscaped and wild gardens
- Around 25 minutes from Vienne and under an hour from Lyon
- Outdoor pool, fishing lake, miniature golf and restaurant
What a pretty place… Camping Le Bontemps is a spectacular-looking site in the Isère department, made up of six scenic hectares of landscaped and wild gardens filled with flowers, plants and serene spots.
Over 175 rare plant species are around these pretty grounds for you to amble peacefully among, or you could seek out the zen garden, fountain, or nature areas for maximum peace and quiet. A private fishing lake is at your disposal too if you're up for angling; if not, the lake surroundings are a mighty serene spot at which to settle down (this is very much the time for a look at the site pics).
A fine big outdoor pool and roomy paddling pool take care of dips for all ages; on land, there's an outdoor gym to work out at, miniature golf to test your skill at, and badminton, volleyball and pétanque courts for a bit more competition. Evening entertainment of all sorts runs in summer.
As a family-friendly place, kids are well catered for too, with a playground, bouncy castle and kids' club. Off site, Camping Le Bontemps is within easy reach of Roussillon and Vienne, the Saint-Martin-la-Plaine wildlife park and the mountains of the Pilat Regional Nature Park.
The site is a couple of kilometres from the shops and restaurants of Vernioz, and about 50 minutes' drive from the foodie city of Lyon. Take some time for eats on site: the restaurant and snack bar serves up meals all day to have indoors or on the terrace, or barbecues can be fired up for dinner back at your pitch.

Local attractions
A drive of about 25 minutes will take you to the handsome old city of Vienne, once a strategic city in Roman times. Some of the thermal baths are still around to see, as well as the Augustan temple, converted to a church in the Middle Ages, and the Roman amphitheatre, now used for the annual Vienne jazz festival running for two weeks each summer.
An excellently odd day out nearby is the Palais idéal of Ferdinand Cheval, a postman who lived in these parts in the 19th century. Picking up an unusually shaped rock one day while out on his rounds, he decided to bring it home and then seek out others of the same type, with which to construct an elaborate stone palace by the side of the road (as you do). The overall effect is really rather fab: do go see.
The Pilat Regional Nature Park, about 15 minutes away to the west, has 560 kilometres of marked walking trails to tackle for hikers or strollers of all abilities, over its 65,000 hectares of mountains, lakes and meadows.
