Local attractions
Camping La Beaume's local village is Esparron-de-Verdon, set on the edge of a beach-lined lake at the entrance to the lower Verdon gorges.
Have a look at the town castle and its tenth century castle, or get active on and around Lake Esparron: sailing, windsurfing, rowing, canoeing and boats of motor and pedal are all available, along with fishing, tennis, horse riding and mountain biking.
And speaking of the Verdon gorges… Several days should be spent around these lovely landscapes that line the five lakes of Esparron, Quinson, Artignosc, Sainte-Croix and Castillon, whether you fancy paragliding among its spectacular scenery, watching vultures and other birds soaring above, or traversing the local walking trails like the Sentier Martel and the Route des Crètes.
Also most certainly take time to see as many as poss of the area's preserved Provençal villages such as Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Riez, Gréoux-les-Bains and Castellane, taking in too Provençal culinary specialties such as tapenade, olive oil, aubergine caviar and excellently tasty aîoli.
