- Two-hectare park on the Charente river, on the outskirts of Cognac
- 15 minutes’ walk to leisure centre: play areas, golf and watersports
- Outdoor pool, playground, sports, takeaway snacks and barbecue areas
A smashing stay amid stunning scenery’s to be had at Camping de Cognac – this two-hectare wooded park is on the banks of the Charente river, five minutes’ drive from the centre of Cognac (or half an hour’s walk if you fancy stretching your legs).
Speaking of stretching your legs, a cycle path is next to the site to take you on explores along the water’s edge, which is also a fine spot for fishing or cruising on a barge.
The action continues back at base with a pétanque court, table tennis and volleyball area, and les enfants you’ve brought along for the hol get a playground as their own domain. Rather relax in the pretty surrounds than start up a high-stakes sports tournament with the rest of the family? There’s also a book loan service for picking up a page-turner.
During high season, this place ups the ante a bit with the addition of an outdoor pool to splash about in; at other times of year, activity’s to be had a 15-minute walk away at the Leisure Centre André Mermet’s outdoor park with its play areas, sports, canoes, pedalos, miniature golf and inflatable games.
Tote some takeaway snacks from the site with you for a picnic here, or head homewards and rustle up some eats at one of the two barbecue areas. Basic groceries are available to pick up at the park and more grub to grill can be grabbed from the shops enroute to Cognac.
Washing machines, facilities for guests with disabilities and free wifi round out the extra amenities at this site.

Local attractions
Cognac’s tiptop attractions are within easy reach of this excellently located park: the Royal Château of Cognac, Cognac Public Garden and the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire are all about a five-minute drive away.
For alcohol aficionados, another museum – the Musée des Arts du Cognac, a centre dedicated to the history and production of cognac – is well worth a look, and tours and tastings of the liquor are available at the famed Remy Martin Cognac distillery (both 10 minutes).
Can’t find a babysitter for the younger members of your crew? Skip the sipping and take them to the treetop courses at the Adventure Park Valley Fontdouce (20 minutes), then top off your trip with a treasure hunt around The Castle of Riddles (half an hour) and a visit to the unorthodox sculptures at Les Lapidiales park (45 minutes).
