Keen to ditch the car on your family camping break in the Vendée? Camping Le Grand Jardin has a peaceful location in a green setting with trees, 10 minutes by bike from Atlantic beaches, and allows direct access to the cycle paths criss-crossing the marshy landscapes of the Breton wetlands. If you’re bringing your own bikes, there are secure sheds to store them in, but otherwise hire them in the centre of Notre-Dame-de-Monts (10 minutes' walk away) and get out to explore the area around the town whenever you feel like it. Not keen on cycling? There’s plenty of other stuff happening at this relaxed site to keep everyone happy and entertained. The heated indoor pool is open for family fun and games during high season, and you can fish for carp or set out on canoeing adventures along the Taillée river, which backs the site. A kids’ club – with lots of workshops and games – is available during the week in high season, and there’s a playground with slides and ping-pong tables as well as a pétanque court where you can challenge newfound friends to competitions. Stock up on barbecue bits and pieces in Notre-Dame-de-Monts shops, or eat in the casual restaurant on site, open for snacks, lunch and dinner – takeaways are available too.

  • The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/06 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • The restaurant is open between 07/04 and 30/09.
  • Entertainment and activities are available between 07/07 and 01/09.
  • The indoor swimming pool is open between 04/04 and 30/09.
  • Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.
  • Reception is unmanned after 5:30 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • A cable measuring at least 15 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
  • No charcoal barbecues allowed.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Liked Clean, bright site, well maintained, good size pitch with nice hedges and trees. Staff very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Good location near beaches and cycle routes. Decent bar.

Disliked Toilet and grey waste could be better and more conveniently located. WiFi only available around reception area.

Liked Lovely quiet site with clean and well maintained facilities. Pitches were a good size with hedges for privacy. Pool was beautiful and well maintained. Didn’t eat in Restuarant but it was popular in evening. Good access to cycle tracks and local towns and for Noirmouter.

Liked Lovely site, pitched next to our friends, as requested. Quiet family site, access to the river, a small pool, play park & holiday club. 25 min walk to gorgeous beaches, or in to town for food & ice cream. Supermarket within walking distance.
Facilities were clean and adequate, reception staff were friendly & welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Liked Helpful, friendly staff. Good size pitch, good clean facilities. 20 minute brisk walk to lovely restaurants down near the beach. Fabulous location. Would go again.

Keen to up the activity levels? Cycle through pine forest to the numerous sandy Bay of Biscay beaches, including Plage de la Grande Côte (20 minutes by bike) for sand yachting, paddleboarding and sea-kayaking adventures. For less demanding action, saunter along way-marked trails in the woodland at Pey de la Blet (15 minutes), or amble over the dunes at Plage de la Bergère (20 minutes), known for its spectacular sunsets on clear days. Flat, sandy and connected to the Vendée mainland by bridge, tiny Île de Noirmoutier (half an hour) lends itself to being discovered by bike. Cycle routes lead past forests and salt marshes to expansive beaches like peaceful Plage des Sables d’Or (55 minutes) for leisurely dips in the sea, or Plage des Dames (an hour and 20 minutes) for dinghy sailing. Keen on history? Tour the keep, courtyard and ramparts at medieval Château de Noirmoutier (an hour and 15 minutes). Need to ease aching muscles after all the cycling? Book a restorative massage or steam room at Valdys Resort in Saint-Jean-de-Monts (10 minutes’ drive).
