It's free, quick and easy!
- Seafront Normandy site in the dunes of Vanlée harbour
- Direct access to the beach; shops and restaurants a walk away
- Outdoor pool, playground and summertime activities on site
The dunes of Vanlée harbour on one side, direct access to Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal’s splendid stretch of sandy beach on the other – it’s safe to say that those seeking sea views will be pretty happy with their lot at Camping de la Vanlée.
Actually, the outlook from this Lower Normandy site will very much depend on the hour: at low tide you’ll be looking out at salt marshes and grazing sheep; at high tide the waters rise to put you on a peninsula. Walks, bike rides and horse rides are all fab ways to get out and see more, and there’s plenty more activity to be had within walking distance, including golf, tennis, sand yachting, sea kayaking and sailing lessons.
If les enfants should demand rather more activity than just gazing out to sea, escort them to the site’s outdoor swimming pool, direct them to the playground or help them line up games of volleyball, table tennis and pétanque. They’ll also have a summer hols programme of assorted antics to get stuck in to, as will grownups seeking sports and social events (although you’re equally welcome simply to chill out in the bar instead should you wish).
Shops and seafront restaurants are around 20 minutes’ walk away from Camping de la Vanlée, and further facilities are 10 minutes’ drive away in Bréhal.

Local attractions
If those gorgeous views have enticed you out into the open air (as well they should), there are plenty of options for outdoor time nearby. A golf course, watersports and sailing school are within a 10-minute walk, and there’s a little network of paths running around the peninsula for easy-going walks and bike rides. Plus, of course, there is that splendid beach, right next to the site and stretching south for several kilometres.
A leisurely drive of 10 minutes or so should get you to a riding stables or parachuting centre to see the scenery from either a slightly elevated position or way up in the clouds. If you’re not feeling intrepid enough to fling yourself from a plane, get a taste of life in the air on the adventure trails at Raptor Park, 10 minutes away. There’s also a roller rink, trampoline park and dino-themed play centre here.
For real-life animals, pile into the car for the 25-minute journey to see sea beasties at Roc Aquarium or exotic creatures at Champrépus Zoo (half an hour). Those folks with an eye for fashion may alternatively like to don their finery and sashay through the salons of the Christian Dior museum, 20 minutes away in Granville.
