  • Peaceful site with a winery a 10-minute drive from Bjelovar
  • Đurđevac and Kulturni centar Mato Lovrak half an hour’s drive
  • Horseback-riding excursions; restaurant; wine-tasting experiences
For a holiday that combines hiking in the green hills of Bjelovar-Bilogora County with the pleasure of discovering Central Croatia’s wine production, consider booking a spot at Kamp Vinia, a peaceful site in the small village of Puričani, a 10-minute drive from Bjelovar. If this area’s spectacular countryside and vinous experiences are not enough to persuade you, the site owners also throw into the equation horseback excursions in the woods. And with about 20 horses in their stables, there is an animal suitable for anyone, whether you’re an inexperienced or a confident rider. But you’re still wondering about the wine, aren’t you? Here’s the deal: the site sits on a farm with its own vineyards and winemaking facilities. Guests are welcome to sample the home-made products, which include wine, but also brandy and other liqueurs. And when you need some food to soak up the delicious local booze, the restaurant serves a range of traditional regional specialities. If you prefer to cook your own food, you can spark up the barbecue, having sourced supplies in Trojstveni Markovac (five minutes’ drive) or in Bjelovar. The on-site dog park ensures your four-legged friend gets the exercise it needs – or at least a wee warm-up before you both hit the local trails, including those in Medin izvor (15 minutes). Other amenities include a toilet block with facilities for disabled guests, showers (and a bath, if you fancy a relaxing soak) and a drying room.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Very sympathetic owner, easy of access.

Disliked: Lots of mosquitoes, not a lot of shadow so you're cooking in this hot summer. The place is not very guarded so you may encounter wandering dogs or people randomly getting their horses. The facilities are not the cleanest and full of flies. According to my friend, the bar is deceitful as they have no artisanal local beers, which is sad when you're visiting a foreign country. A bit expensive too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Views. Countryside location. Food in the restaurant.

Disliked: Owner asked us for € 10 extra, as he claimed the stated price was for a tent pitch not a van pitch. Toilets and showers in need of repair and not very clean.

From the manager: thank you. Our price is 20€ for 2 person and camper, electicity and water included, plus 1,5 € touristic tax, at our price list. Pitchup had a price of 10€, what is our price for 2 person + smal tent. Sorry, but you said it is not problem. best regards

Local attractions

With a pleasingly regular street grid, the city of Bjelovar spreads around a park centred on the Paviljon Bjelovar, a white-stone structure that hosts musical concerts and other events. In an elegant building overlooking the park, the Town Museum has ethnographic, archaeological and historic displays. Kulturni centar Mato Lovrak (half an hour’s drive) honours the 20th-century Croatian children’s writer, author of the popular novel ‘A Train in the Snow’. A locomotive recalling the one in the story is part of this centre’s collection, which also includes a series of reconstructed buildings, while a nature trail winds past a colony of beavers. Đurđevac (half an hour) is home to the Croatia Sahara zoo, with approachable camels and alpacas, plus a number of farmyard animals. On the outskirts of the town, Đurđevački Pijesci is a botanical reserve that includes a desert area known as the Sands of Đurđevac, where you might see numerous species of butterflies.
