Spectacular views of the Black Mountains
Set in an entirely private location peaceful and tranquil
Fantastic views across the black mountains
Private luxury glamping with incredible views

  • Dog-friendly luxury bell tents with views of the Black Mountains
  • A 15-minute drive to the Black Mountains and Abergavenny
  • A five-minute drive to the Offa’s Dyke footpath and the nearest pub
From tackling summits to taking it easy in private luxuriously furnished bell tents with views of the Black Mountains, spend some time away at Campston Hill Wild Camping in Monmouthshire, 15 minutes’ drive from the relaxed market town of Abergavenny. This peaceful dog-friendly site is not only equal parts wild and luxurious. It also makes a good base for mixing and matching mountain hikes in the Black Mountains, including the Sugar Loaf (20 minutes’ drive), Skirrid Fawr (15 minutes) or Blorenge (25 minutes), with local footpaths and tours around local heritage sites including castles and ruined priories. The main attraction, of course, might just be the completely private, luxuriously furnished bell tents at this site, which sleep up to four people. They each have access to a private eco toilet, wash stand and open-air hot shower, and are in a peaceful location with gorgeous views. Part of a working farm down a private farm lane half a mile from the nearest road, the surroundings are pretty peaceful. The site is also nicely connected to several walking trails, including the huge Offa’s Dyke footpath within five minutes’ drive of the site. Touch base at the nearest pub, which is a stop along the same footpath or five minutes’ drive away, for a pint of ale or a meal. Handily, the pub has a beer garden where you (and the dog) can sit outside and rest your feet. Later, pick up any supplies (and any bits you need for a campfire back on site) from the food shops in Abergavenny, 15 minutes’ drive away. Set a 10-minute drive away is the local cider house, a family-friendly place with a bar that runs weekend events and pop-up food.

Drovers Den bell tent

Liked We loved the location.. the view from the tent was beautiful and our kids loved having the freedom to roam and let off steam in the surrounding fields which we had to ourselves. Within minutes our kids were wanting to come back next year! The outdoor hot shower was also a big hit. We enjoyed campfires and with the dark skies enjoyed looking up at the stars and full moon. Everything was well set and communication with the host was easy. We are looking forward to returning

Drovers Den bell tent

Liked Everything we could need was provided. Cooking equipment, cutlery, crockery, gas stove even some complimentary teas and coffee. Ellie communicated with us about arrival and was there to greet us and take us to the tent. Everything was set out well and we had so much space! We will be back for sure.

Hatteral View bell tent

Liked The location was lovely, with stunning views across the valley. The tent was very well presented with lots provided. There was a firepit which could be used as a barbeque too. The outdoor shower was a novelty, particularly as it rained, which added to the unique experience. If you're looking to get away, with minimal setting-up to do, and to have some privacy (you are completely in your own space), and to enjoy the outdoors then this is a great choice.

Fern Bank bell tent

Liked This campsite is really special. It is so peaceful & the views are gorgeous. A slice of heaven I'd say.
You have everything you need in the tent, tea & coffee provided. Towels, lovely bed.
The outdoor shower is really good, hot water & a lovely view.
The owner is very helpful & the photos & info don't do it justice. The nearest tent was more than a field away.
The track down to the tent is about 5 minutes, so probably don't go in your best Jag ! But it was no problem for us. Pubs near by are good, we drove.
Excellent location for Sugar Loaf etc in fact you can see it from the tent.

Disliked Nothing to dislike
