  • Scenic Llŷn Peninsula glampsite five minutes’ drive from sandy beaches
  • A 10-minute drive from Pwllheli and 45 minutes from scenic Portmeirion
  • Half an hour’s drive from Snowdonia National Park
Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or a family-friendly getaway without the effort, Valentines Glamorous Camping – a glampsite 10 minutes’ drive from the Gwynedd town of Pwllheli in north Wales – will tick all the right boxes. There are no tents to pitch or sleeping bags to unravel on this Llŷn Peninsula site, meaning loads more time for explores, starting with a wander down for swims and sandcastle building at the local sandy stretch (in the village of Llanbedrog), a half-hour’s stroll or five-minute drive away. Days at the beach may not feel complete without a bite or two, so head along to the site’s well-equipped kitchen to nab a picnic basket and fill it to the brim for portable eats, or take some time away from the shore to try out some of the cafés and restaurants in Llanbedrog. It’s evenings full of peace and quiet then, settling in next to the firepit while dinner slowly cooks over the coals, soaking up the views while daylight lasts and, as darkness falls, turning eyes to the skies for a night of stargazing. Ah, bliss…

Bell tent

Liked: Little private site , very quiet, safe for Children to run around and explore the little trails. The fire was fun for Children to cook on.

Disliked: Toilets were too far for little legs Tent and other items needed replacing as we're broken, such as the tent zip which we couldn't close and had already been repaired once. The water container was also broken and the tap wasn't close so lots of repeat walks to fill water. Also lights on the outside of the tent didn't work.

Bell tent

Liked: The Bell tent was great, comfy beds and plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses, tea bags and coffee. A nice secluded spot and great fire pit for cooking. The solar fairy lights were useful and the electric plug. The campsite was quiet & friendly (mostly caravans) and the kitchen, toilets & showers regularly cleaned.

Disliked: It was a long walk to the toilet, kitchen, shower block. A little plug in cooler in the bell tent would have been wonderful to store milk. The WiFi on site did not reach the bell tents (& mobile reception was poor) - this was a bit of an issue for linking up a diabetic monitor to phone.

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite, beautiful secluded spot close to amenities and beaches. Toilet and showers clean and warm. Owners couldn't be more welcoming or helpful. Bell tent well equipped and clean, and beds very comfortable.

Disliked: Not so much a dislike but some things to keep in mind. The fridge assigned to the bell tent is actually in the toilet block at the other end of the campsite which is z fair walk for a splash of milk in your coffee. There is electricity in the tent though and access to a freezer so bring a cool box. There is an electrical kettle in the tent but all cooking is done on fire which is fab but slow and not practical in wind and rain. Plenty of nice eating places around though.

Local attractions

The Llŷn Peninsula is mighty fine for rambling explores: the 870-mile Wales Coast Path can be joined in Llanbedrog for lengthy hikes, saddles can be leapt into at Pen Llyn Stud (a 15-minute drive away) to take the peninsula at more of a canter, and pedallers can hire bikes in Pwllheli when two-wheeled whizzing fits the bill. If that’s not enough for active types, they’ll be best pleased by proximity to Snowdonia National Park, which is 45 minutes from base. It’s got castles and National Trust sites to visit, fab eateries to try out and, of course, the highest peak in Wales (Mt Snowdon) to scale. Not so energetic, or have trouble getting about? There’s a train to the peak too, so climb aboard for an easier way to get those views. Train anoraks may be keen to chug along to a different set of tracks: the scenic Welsh Highland Railway departs Porthmadog en route to Caernarfon, cutting through Snowdonia on the way to the coast, and Ffestiniog Railway leaves from the same station, heading towards the centre of the national park and its stop at Blaenau Ffestiniog. That might get history buffs keen for longer stays in the past… Luckily, there’s plenty hereabouts to entertain: the hulking Criccieth Castle is half an hour away, and Caernarfon, Harlech and Penrhyn castles are all between 45 minutes and an hour from base. More outdoorsy types may prefer Portmeirion instead – the stunningly scenic Italianate village (and shooting location for 1960s cult classic TV show The Prisoner) is just 45 minutes from the site.
