  • Luxury, cosy wooden pods on a peaceful Llŷn Peninsula site
  • A 10-minute drive from Porthor beach; 25 minutes from Pwllheli
  • Woodburning stoves, Welsh wool blankets and firepits for keeping warm
Stay warm whatever the weather may choose to deliver at Glampio Coed Glamping – this collection of smart wooden pods is in a two-acre field on the Llŷn Peninsula, 10 minutes’ drive from sandy beaches and coastal walks, and 25 minutes from Pwllheli. For a comfy and cosy stay, each of the handmade wooden units is kitted out with lots of lovely little touches including luxury bed linen, Welsh wool blankets, a woodburning stove and hot water bottles. Guests are also treated to a hamper of local produce on arrival and can prep a good breakfast using the communal kitchen’s kettle, microwave, toaster and gas hob, or pick up a lovely coffee or hot chocolate from the drinks machine. Firepits and barbecues are on hand for outdoor cooking, plus there’s wood for sale on site and supermarket supplies are 10 minutes away in Aberdaron (along with cafés and a chip shop if you need more immediate munchies). Alternatively, you can pick up a wood-fired pizza on site, and there's a small bar selling wines and local Welsh beers and ciders, so there's also the option of a pint and a pizza in a quiet area of the forest or back at your pod. With only a handful of guests on site at one time there’s plenty of space to chill out here, taking in the country views by day and starry skies at night. If you’re in need of a bit more activity, have a word with the folk running the park about their Airsoft outdoor games site or head out locally for watersports, golf, go-karting and horse riding, all of which are within a half-hour drive.

Porth Iago camping pod

Liked: Stayed here with my boyfriend and our dog for 2 nights but could definitely have stayed longer. Amazing stay, I highly recommend it to anyone. Pods were spacious, clean, included all the homely touches, had everything you would need, facilities super clean and communal area included bbq and other things to use. Lots of space around the pods to play for children and dogs. Good location to drive to all local beaches, we visited some lovely beaches. If travelling with a dog make sure you check it is dog friendly as some are not but that did not affect us, also remember to check the tide before you arrive (something we forgot on our first day). Pizza bar on site was an added bonus, pizzas were delicious, it’s a must! staff there all friendly and it was nice to see it busy in the evening with people visiting who were staying local. Pizza area is far enough to have your privacy if you want to stay around your pod. There was a premium shop at a petrol garage up the road called pen y bont in case you need supplies. It also seemed to do lamb koftas and chicken skewers in case you needed them for the bbq! We did not see any other local shop close by on the map but we never asked the owners so we could be wrong. We had a log burner inside our pod but the pods were warm and cosy enough that we did not use it. Bed was comfy and we had a really nice relaxing stay, lovely to sit outside the pods on the camping chairs at all hours of the day taking in the fresh air. It had a campsite right behind the pods which can be used for those with their own tent / camper.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike about this place, just get it booked. The owners clearly take care of the facilities and take pride in making it as homely as possible.

Porthorion camping pod (ensuite)

Liked: We had an absolutely wonderful stay for two nights in the Porthoriion pod last week. We are a family of four with two children aged 7 and 11. We were also travelling with friends and were placed in pods next to each other which was great. Everything was fantastic on arrival and the staff team incredibly helpful. The decor and attention to detail in the pods is wonderful - they’ve thought of everything! The nearby kitchen and shower/toilet block is of a very high standard and incredible clean. There’s a green space in the middle of the site which was great for the kids to run around and play games. BBQ’s available to use or alternatively delicious pizza’s to purchase from the on-site takeaway. Lots of beaches a short drive away. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return for another visit.

Disliked: Nothing! Everything was great. Minor point - sofa bed for the children was fine for our two at the age they are, but for older children/teens could be a squeeze, or if they like their space when going to sleep! If we return I would consider taking a single blow up bed as plenty of room for this alongside sofa bed.

Local attractions

Pretty Porthor beach – also known as Whistling Sands for the squeaking noise its surface makes as you walk across it – is 10 minutes’ drive from this park for windy walks or sunbathing sessions (depending on the prevailing climate). If you’d rather ride than roam, hitch yourself up on one of the horses at the stables 15 minutes’ drive away or learn how to sail in the popular Llyn Peninsula resort of Abersoch (20 minutes). For yet more watersports, as well as inland activities like go-karting and bowling, get over to Glasfryn Park (half an hour). Planning on skirting the seaside as much as possible? Boat trips towards Bardsey Island leave from Pwllheli (25 minutes). If you’re intending to venture off the peninsula for a trek or two, speed over to Snowdonia National Park and walk up Wales’ highest peak (50 minutes’ drive), stopping off at the hilltop Criccieth Castle (40 minutes) for sweeping views over the local village and coast along the way. Those who want jaunts on gentler paths can idle around the Italianate village of Portmeirion (55 minutes) with its colourful houses and landscaped greenery instead.
