  • Elevated meadow site with bell tents on a Llŷn Peninsula working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Porth Neigwl; 40 minutes’ walk to Abersoch
  • Back to basics for a complete recharge
Enlisting yourself for surfing, coastal hikes and peaceful times on the Llŷn Peninsula? You’ll be off to a good start at Coed Y Fron’s bell tents, which are set out in an elevated meadow with views of Porth Neigwl, otherwise known as Hell’s Mouth. Its four-mile bay, famed for its surf, is just 10 minutes’ drive away. Stop the clock and relax…there’s buckets of room in the meadow at Coed Y Fron to chill out. It’s just a little morning stroll down the hill, across the stream and up to the farmyard to buy your breakfast bap, locally-roasted coffee or a milkshake (available 24/7). This produce stall and takeaway, called Giát y Fferm (The Farm Gate), also sells essential produce like local milk, butter, cheese, bread and the farm’s free-range eggs. Make an evening stop for burgers and corn on the cob too, before heading back to your tent for a firepit (accompanied by starry skies or else the twinkle of lights on faraway farms and homesteads). The Llŷn Peninsula is known for its scenery, heritage and culture… so get on out in the Welsh countryside or visit the Saint Tudwal's Islands, which are just off the coast of Abersoch and behind the ever-changing colours of the hill Foel Gron (55 minutes’ drive). The small family-run farm is set between Mynytho and Abersoch (40 minutes’ walk). The latter has two sandy beaches, cafés, pubs, takeaways, small supermarkets, boutiques, paddleboarding or kayak rental and a small sailing school for some sea time or a pirates kids’ club. The friendly folk who run the site are always on-hand to assist you but note that they may occasionally be interrupted by Curly, the matriarch of the traditional Hereford cow herd requesting carrots.Their first language is Welsh, so while English is spoken, you’ll have a great chance to learn some important Welsh terms – sea and campfire perhaps.

Bell tent

Liked: A bell tent - easily fit 8 adults. Personal toilet and sink with draining board. Plenty of space to play kids footie, tennis, throw balls for the dog, a shop, fresh organic milk in a dispensing machine, quiet, awesome scenery of mountains sea and clear starry nights, cooking marsh mallows over the open fire within the fire pit on a carved stick and enjoy this sweet caramel dessert.

Disliked: Very hard compacted earth ground under the tent. Not enough access to see the animals. The extreme temperature drop at night.

Bell tent

Liked: The owners kindly accommodated us very last minute after our own tent was damaged by bad weather at another site nearby. When we arrived we had a welcome bag of fruit from the on-site farm shop and a bag of logs for the fire which was replenished again the next night. The tent was really clean and the views we woke up to in the morning were incredible! The toilet facilities were really clean and I liked that it was so close by and not a long trek like some sites. The site is 5 mins from the beautiful town of Abersoch where we spent the day on the beach. The actual tent has so much space there was only two of us and a dog but easily enough room for 6-8 people. Owners were really friendly and accommodating and I won’t hesitate to come back Thankyou!
