  • Family campsite with level grass pitches, near Bangor in North Wales
  • A 15-minute drive to both Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey
  • Well-equipped rugby club site with firepit hire and mountain views
Tucked in between the island of Anglesey and Snowdonia National Park, family-friendly Eagle Camping is in some of North Wales’s wildest mountain scenery. A river borders the rural camping field, which is surrounded by woodland and has rugged peaks as a backdrop. A cycling and walking path links Bethesda with Porth Penrhyn on the coast (15 minutes’ drive), and the sandy beach in Anglesey’s Red Wharf Bay is just 25 minutes across the Britannia Bridge from the campsite. At 15 minutes away, Bangor’s the best place to pick up essential supplies for your mini break, with plenty of supermarkets for picking up bits and pieces, as well as pubs with Menai Strait views and takeaways. The flat and well-maintained grass pitches are on the local rugby club’s training field, with facilities provided by the clubhouse, so there are proper loos and hot showers too. A few site rules: only one car allowed per pitch, with parking in the designated car park. Dogs are very welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times and are not allowed in the clubhouse. Firepits (can be hired) and barbecues are allowed next to your tent, but they must be off the ground – you can buy wood on site, and grass protection boards are provided for free. It’s quiet time from 10.30pm until 8am, so no loud music overnight please.

Local attractions

Daredevil types should head for the go-karts and zipwires at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (five minutes’ drive), where you can fly an adrenaline-inducing 500m above the lake in a former slate quarry. As well as plenty of easy walking routes for families, Snowdonia National Park (15 minutes) offers a packed itinerary of extreme outdoorsy activities, from climbing and mountain biking to white-water rafting and canyoning, More sedate pursuits in these parts include castle ruins to explore at Dolbadarn (25 minutes) and seaside Harlech (one hour 10 minutes), as well as the colourful streets and eccentric buildings of Portmeirion (one hour), a folly built in Italianate style in the 1920s. Of course Anglesey (15 minutes) has much to offer too. You can discover beaches and rugged coves on coastline drives, sample local whites on a winery tour, and have a mosey around historic Beaumaris (25 minutes), with its medieval castle and bracing walks along the Victorian pier.

Thank you we enjoyed it

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Ground was soft enough

Disliked Sold as a family friendly site but absolutely wasnt, we had large groups of young adults on either side swearing and playing rave music till 4 in the morning, the rugby club house did the same till past 12, not suitable for families at all sadly.

Great site for a last minute camping trip

Liked Was a great site , facilities were better than expected. We made use of the clubhouse in the evenings to shelter from the Rain. Firepits were provided. Good wash up area , with bin bags provided for rubbish

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location, we planned to hike Yr Wyddfa so was perfect for us. Close to Bangor for easy shop access and good links to Conwy and Colwyn Bay. Pitches were flat and level and fire pits were provided free of charge (A limited number available though)

Disliked Minimal facilities. There were three female showers and four toilets for the full site. At times the second toilets were unavailable and so a whole campsite of women attempting to use two toilets often lead to them being quite messy. Showers felt quite open as they’re renovated from the rugby club changing rooms - this just means a slightly seetheough curtain between you and the world while showering, it wasn’t very pleasant.

There were no vehicle restrictions across the site at night and with poor weather the site began to get very muddy under vehicle tyres, cars could drive around the site in the pitch black.

There were also two events on in the rugby club playing music until very late and there was no noise curfew or “Quiet” hours across the site meaning music and shouting was happening until past midnight - made getting to sleep a bit difficult when you’re tired.

Will be aiming to stay there again next summer.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely relaxed site, lots of space to spread out. So nice not to be crammed in with a small pitch. Field was nice and level too!

Disliked There was works going on with the access road whilst we were there, quite frustrating at times as we’d have to park up in the town.

Easy access…
