  • Small friendly site in Babell hamlet, a short drive from pubs/food
  • Beaches, Chester Zoo and Snowdonia within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from the A55 for easy cross-country journeys
Fishing, golf, horse riding, walks and beaches by day, trotting to the local pub of an evening – sound like the kind of holiday agenda you could possibly consider? If so, you’ll be settled among similar souls at The Ridings Caravan and Camping Park, a friendly little place in the teeny hamlet of Babell. Outdoorsy antics galore can be had just a few minutes away, and this is also a rather fine spot for those seeking to venture a little further, perhaps to the beaches of the north coast, the mountains and lakes of Snowdonia National Park or the excellent Chester Zoo. (It’s worth noting that though the views may be decidedly rural, the A55 is handily just a few minutes’ drive away.) However you choose to fill your hours, cap off a fine day by taking the short drive to the local pub for dinner, or by stoking up a barbecue. Being a relaxed kind of place, amenities have been kept on the simple side: showers, toilets, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point are all provided.

Local attractions

Want to go for a walk? Take your pick from the coast path, the mountain and lake trails of the Snowdonia National Park and hikes along the northern part of the Offa’s Dyke Path. Gentler souls may like to stroll around Basingwerk Abbey and the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park 10 minutes away in Holywell, while more intrepid types make an assault on Moel Famau, the highest hill in the Clwydian Range. The area around the park has plenty of other fresh-air activity, too: horse riding, golf and fishing are within a 10-minute drive, and it’s a 45-minute journey to Surf Snowdonia. For a dose of sea air, Talacre and Prestatyn beaches around about 20 minutes away, or you can reach the elegant resort of Llandudno in 40 minutes. Chester Zoo and the Welsh Mountain Zoo, half an hour away, are both popular picks for family days out, or you may like to meet the sea creatures at Rhyl’s SeaQuarium. And (this being Wales) there’s always a castle to visit: Gwrych, Conwy and Rhuddlan are all within half an hour’s drive to inspire your budding knights.

Electric grass and earth tent or touring caravan pitch

Liked As always The Ridings Caravan and Camping site scores top marks from us. It's our third time visiting and our stay was exceptional. Not only the site is quiet, peaceful and extremely clean. The facilities provided are top of the range and extremely looked after. The reason why we are keeping and will keep coming back is that the owners created a very family friendly atmosphere and all on site are very welcoming and friendly. It's like a second home for us. Our 10 year old boy loves staying at this site. To us it's perfect.

Electric grass and earth tent or touring caravan pitch

Liked This was an amazing little site with electric, water and bins on every pitch. The person that runs it was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Everyone on site were really friendly and even offered to help pitch my tent. It was very clean and tidy, and the site was quite at a reasonable time. Would definitely recommend this site.

Electric grass and earth tent or touring caravan pitch

Liked It was clean.

Disliked Very clicky, rules not abided by. ie dogs off leads. Not friendly towards children, especially those with additional needs. Bullying from children who are regulars there. We booked for 4 nights but stayed for 3 as we felt unwelcome and singled out. There was an odd stench of trout in the air! 🤷🏻
The manager/owner who patrolled the site often had a pint of beer in his hand. The entrance was just a farm gate and was easy to miss on arrival as signs were small and bushes grown over them. Don’t get much in the way of 4g or 5G for your phone. Pot washing area was not lit and wasn’t easy to see if your pots were clean. Showers were turned off at night, so no night time showers. There was only family shower rooms with no baby changing units and the lack of a shower block was frustrating during busy periods.
This campsite is aimed more at caravan owners than tent owners.

Electric grass and earth tent or touring caravan pitch

Liked Everything! Bri was the most amazing host and made us feel completely welcome and at home upon arrival and throughout our stay. The seasonal caravan owners were all also welcoming and very friendly. The shower and toilet block was immaculate and toilet paper very well stocked. The whole site was well laid out and very well kept. We will definitely be booking again and recommending to our camping friends.
