  • Butterfly House 20 minutes’ drive; Coed y Brenin Forest Park an hour
  • Heated indoor pool; clubhouse with bar and restaurant; dogs welcome
Ready for stunning views of Cardigan Bay and spectacular sunsets over the sea? Sounds like a trip to the west coast of Wales is on the cards, then. And when you do make your way to Ceredigion, you should certainly consider a stay at Aber Bay Holiday Park. This peaceful, family-friendly spot is just north of Aberystwyth, which you can reach by car (10 minutes’ drive) or via a splendid walk along the Ceredigion Coast Path (45 minutes), all the while taking in more of those unforgettable bay views from the clifftop. After all this talk of bays and coastlines, you might be wondering: just how close is the beach from the site? Well, Clarach Beach is about a 30-second walk away: literally just across the road and a patch of grass – how convenient is that? On days when the water is too rough (or too cold) for you, you can retreat to the indoor (heated) swimming pool, or just admire the sea from the terrace of the clubhouse, where you can gaze upon a vast stretch of coastline with a glass of something chilled in hand – or with a meal from the restaurant. Meanwhile, the kids can busy themselves in the outdoor play area or in the games room… Dogs are welcome at the site, and they can also join you on the beach (provided they stay on the north side of the river Clarach); they should have a jolly good time exploring rockpools and hidden coves.

What customers say

Lovely seaside spot with beach access. Clean facilities, but some hygiene/availability gripes. Clubhouse is a hit with families, though noise issues and pool charges bothered a few. Parking and food service were also mentioned.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite , local to beach

Disliked The club house . Tried to go for a meal twice with no luck . Over an hour wait the first time , the second time was an hour wait , decided to wait this time to be told 40 minutes later they had no chips and couldn’t fulfil the order I was given a refund . Another time we popped in and had a drink , and me and my children witnessed a fight security had to break up . My 8 year old was petrified.

Roof tent non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nostalgic type of vibe.
Clubhouse was good food good
Very close to the sea and bay
Amazing views and walks
Security Guard Dean was great. He looked after us and the site we were on for 10 hours a day and we felt comfortable leaving our belongings behind.
Swimming pool was great
The little arcade was ok.
live music food options were good around the site.
The walk across to Aberystwyth was pretty and the lift train on the other side was a welcome sight.
My 6 year old loved the place. He went in the sea learned to skip rocks, played on the machines.
The last day we had to leave by 12pm this was awesome.
We went to go to the front to say bye to the sea for 5 minutes and was still there 7 hours later playing and messing about.
The reception staff were all fantastic and helpful.
Shop was good
The campsite was quiet, some kids running around messing with others tents and bits but nothing bad bad.
Loads of room to play
Very laid back place
The Amber bay side of things is all you could want and is just right.

Disliked Campsite is away from the caravan park and have to walk along a little road and the cars do not slow down or even drive at the speed limit. It’s very dark walk at night.
No hot water to wash up after cooking. Impossible to get pans plates clean after cooking.
The whole site bar the swimming pool and club house is dated, but not bad in any way really.
Long wait for food, to be expected really.

Roof tent non-electric grass pitch

Liked On the coast, enjoyed the clubhouse. Quiet pitch for roof tent.

Led to nice coastal walks.

Disliked No hot water for washing up, also not covered incased the weather was bad.

Needs an additional toilet, shower block at the bottom of the field for those using roof tents.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Views.

Disliked Violence on site, police presence, children were scared.
Waited over an hour for breakfast at the clubhouse was ridiculous considering the place was quiet. Would not recommend this site. If you’re looking for a family weekend with children AVOID this site!
Have sent Aberbay an email raising my concern, they choose to ignore.

Local attractions

If you make your way to Aberystwyth on foot along the Ceredigion Coast Path, you’ll reach Constitution Hill in about 25 minutes. Once there, stop for a coffee and to check out the Camera Obscura (in a pagoda-like building), before taking the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway into town, and then a steam-train ride to Devil’s Bridge Waterfalls on the Vale of Rheidol Railway. The Magic of Life Butterfly House (20 minutes), in the Rheidol Valley, recreates a tropical rainforest setting for its colourful winged residents, who will happily land on your body as you walk among them. Other beasties here include beetles, caterpillars and stick insects, plus poison dart frogs. In Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour) has a purpose-built mountain-bike park with routes for all levels of ability (and a skills area where you can determine which are the most appropriate trails for you), plus numerous and well-marked hiking paths.
