  • Peaceful adults-only Lothian site in a rural conservation village
  • Half an hour’s drive from the Pentland Hills; 40 minutes to Edinburgh
  • Disabled toilet facilities; restaurants, shops and takeaways nearby
Got your eyes on the Lothian countryside and Edinburgh's historical centre? Then, you may want to share in a slice of the sublime scenery and wildlife at Curie Glen Farm Campsite. This small, quiet adults-only site is in a scenic conservation village, 40 minutes’ drive away from the centre of Edinburgh for those looking for a rural retreat they can go back to after the city’s sights entertainment. This place is pretty well-connected to Lothian’s attractions, both by road, rail and bus. It's a 10-minute drive to the A7 and the nearest station in Gorebridge (this has free parking). As for the bus, there are regular buses from Gorebridge again or North Middleton, five minutes’ drive away. You’ll likely want to feel fresh for the day and handily, the site has an amenities block with two toilets, one suitable for disabled visitors, and sinks and wet room-style cubicles where you may want to bring along your own portable handheld shower (none are provided). There’s a cold water supply to each toilet and a separate sink for washing up dishes too. Once you're ready to get out, there are no shortages of splendid trails in the surrounding countryside suitable for those on foot or bicycle. Perhaps stop off at Gorebridge, where there are several restaurants, takeaways and fast-food restaurants within five minutes’ drive of the site, as well as local shops and supermarkets.

What customers say

Spacious pitches in woodland, clean basic facilities. Many love the peace, walking. Some heard noise from camp/castle parties in August. Mobile signal poor. Cold water for washing. Some think it's pricey for what's offered.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Small campsite but still plenty of room for different campers. Gates were always open so could come and go as we pleased. Emailed the owner with a query and they responded almost instantly which was great. Outdoor sink for washing up and even had soap and scrubber which was a nice touch. A great circular walking route that runs just behind the site and has a water feature which was a great nighttime activity after food! We even saw some bats on the site which was amazing.

Disliked Not a dislike, just something for others to bear in mind - the toilets didn't have a working light so just take a torch with you on a night (or leave the door open slightly for natural light like I did 😆).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Isolated, very quiet, v. good field in which to pitch, high trees surround the field keep low sun out.

Disliked Very basic toilets and outdoor wash up sink.
Occassional plane overflight (5000') as under the Edinburgh airport flight path.
Bring provisions to eat as shops not so near to get to.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked The woodland walk

Disliked Presume it was the owner that came round the field a couple of times but didn't actually speak to us. Description is misleading, site is quiet when the scouts in the adjoining permanent camp base aren't doing karaoke or playing music! To describe one toilet as disabled friendly is also stretching the definition somewhat. Someone in a wheelchair would not manage the door or sink etc. although says torch needed for sight, there is no light the loo.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I can only presume that, when I came round to the campsite, these campers were keeping a low profile in their van. I do not like to go round knocking on doors or shouting into tents to see if there is anyone there, since some people want privacy. If a camper opens a door or steps out to let me know they are there, I always make a point of greeting them.
With regard to the Scouts, although they use the site next door, it does not belong to them and this was, in fact, only the second camp this year. It is unfortunate that they disturbed these campers but, in this day and age, there is little in the way of healthy entertainment for young people and I am sure that the leaders would have turned the volume down if they had been asked.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Very quiet even tho the field next to us was full of scouts which turned out to be handy very clean toilets x £25 a night but I suppose for location for fringe was good just a 30 min train ride away x and all other sites were full being last minute so grateful for the space

Disliked I think for the amities it was slightly overpriced for the same price we had all amenities x no signal on phone so had to walk a mile to get signal to let family know we had arrived x drove round the field to pick space got stuck in mud went to owners home no one there good job the scouts were there pushed us out x in the two days there saw no one in charge x toilets although lovely and clean only two on site and only cold water x sink outside for washing up tap stiff and water outlet just fell from plug hole onto drain below missing it And wetting feet I think this should be
A £15 a night site not £25

From the manager: Had these people not left it until the last minute to decide to come to one of the biggest festivals in the country, they would have had time to read the full description of the site and been able to find one, which was not full and, which was more to their taste.

Dont book high season if you want a quiet site.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location near unspoilt woodland walk.
Level piches, Facilities were basic but clean.

Disliked Next door to scout camp field, full of very noisy children. Separated by a wire fence. They were well behaved but we booked a adults only quiet site!!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This was very unfortunate. The scouts only have about 3 camps per year, usually in the spring, and the camps normally last no more than 2 days. The children are well supervised and spend a lot of time off site visiting local attractions.
It is a pity that this person made such a damning report based on a 1 night stay.

A fine overnight stop for a camper van.

Liked Remoteness and quiet.
Middle of woodland and in a nice glen.

Disliked The toilet facilities were very basic. No showers or warm water.
Very little signage to the site which is along some very quiet and remote roads.
