  • Peaceful adults-only Lothian site in a rural conservation village
  • Half an hour’s drive from the Pentland Hills; 40 minutes to Edinburgh
  • Disabled toilet facilities; restaurants, shops and takeaways nearby
Got your eyes on the Lothian countryside and Edinburgh's historical centre? Then, you may want to share in a slice of the sublime scenery and wildlife at Curie Glen Farm Campsite. This small, quiet adults-only site is in a scenic conservation village, 40 minutes’ drive away from the centre of Edinburgh for those looking for a rural retreat they can go back to after the city’s sights entertainment. This place is pretty well-connected to Lothian’s attractions, both by road, rail and bus. It's a 10-minute drive to the A7 and the nearest station in Gorebridge (this has free parking). As for the bus, there are regular buses from Gorebridge again or North Middleton, five minutes’ drive away. You’ll likely want to feel fresh for the day and handily, the site has an amenities block with two toilets, one suitable for disabled visitors, and sinks and wet room-style cubicles where you may want to bring along your own portable handheld shower (none are provided). There’s a cold water supply to each toilet and a separate sink for washing up dishes too. Once you're ready to get out, there are no shortages of splendid trails in the surrounding countryside suitable for those on foot or bicycle. Perhaps stop off at Gorebridge, where there are several restaurants, takeaways and fast-food restaurants within five minutes’ drive of the site, as well as local shops and supermarkets.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The quite peaceful campsite tucked away in the hills but loved that it was only a short drive to busy and exciting capital. Was perfect to come back to after a long day to relaxe.

Disliked: Could have done with some better facilities but in away was quite natural and proper camping experience.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked: The peace on the side is so valuable. Toilets are clean water is available. We enjoyed our stay. Later on the journey we learned that many campers avoided Edinburgh as they could not find a site around the city. For us in no need of electricity for the night this place was a perfect solution. We have enjoyed our stay.

Disliked: Be aware that you might not receive a signal out her and there is no wifi option. Its not too bad to be cut off for some time. Regarding the location I needed help on the very last bit of the street and gave th owner a call. Very friendly guidance was received.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked: Rustig

Disliked: Sanitair zonder verlichting en oudbollig. Wel proper

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfortunately, these campers failed to realise that, as we state that there is no electricity on the site, so there are no lights. The only option would be to run a noisy generator all night, which we do not think would fit with the peaceful nature of the site.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked: All we wanted a basic site with a field and a loo and that is exactly what we got, so perfect for us. Definitely not into ‘holiday parks’! There is a wonderful woodland walk along the river only 100 yds up the road, which was quite idyllic: a real treasure!

Disliked: What sounded like diggers or tractors working in the farm yard next to the site all evening which ruined the peace and tranquility of the place. We had to retreat into the camper van to escape the noise. This was disappointing but the only negative. Although the price was the same as for other sites which had hot showers and other amenities

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: This was a one off problem. We were trying to improve the entrance road, as it was a bit bumpy and muddy. Unfortunately, the digger operator was only available in the evening and we tried to do the work as quickly as possible, finishing at 9pm. I am sorry about the noise on this occasion.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet and secluded site. Level ground for tents, beautiful area, nice horses! Sheltered from wind. No mobile service was a positive and negative.

Disliked: Toilet facilities could be improved I.e. removing the wasp nest from the womens toilet. Was difficult to find; called the owner to clarify where we were going but no answer. There was a wedding party in the field next to us which carried on late into the night which I would have liked to have been warned about.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfortunately, I have just got out of hospital and the wasps nest must have appeared while I was away. I will get someone to look for and remove it. As for the wedding, this was the son of a neighbour and, regrettably, we had no idea they were going to hold the party there. My husband did suggest to the other campers, that day, that we could move them to another part of the farm farther away, but we never actually saw Katie, or we would have offered the same.
