  • Family beachfront park with a huge range of facilities for all ages
  • Kids' and teens' clubs, bowling and adventure playground with zipwire
  • Pool, crazy golf, amusements, bar lounge, shop and restaurant
Cor, you'll wish your Grannie’s home was as cool as this: slap bang on the beachfront, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, tennis courts and Costa coffee on tap… Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park sits beside the powdery white sands of Embo beach near the historic town of Dornoch, in prime position for a romp around the Scottish Highlands. If you’re bringing the family, rest assured that the chances of the little ones getting bored are slim to none. Aside from the pool- and beach-based shenanigans, there’s mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, kids’ clubs featuring the Starland Krew, plus a great adventure playground with a zipwire, swings and slides. Older children and teens can get stuck into making their own animated movies or hit the decks at a DJ workshop in the Freestyle club. Grownups, meanwhile, will likely appreciate the smashing views across the Dornoch Firth – bottlenose dolphins and seals are regularly seen frolicking in the foam – plus the extensive facilities, which include a bar lounge and restaurant, evening entertainment, shop, launderette and more. Grannie would definitely approve…

What customers say

Lovely spot near a beach and great views. Staff are brilliant and loads for families to do. Most think it's clean, but toilets/showers could be better. Food's a bit dear.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Close proximity

Disliked The showers and toilets and wash up area not clean. There was a not i the toiket for the guest to ring the site warden if thetoilets etc were not clean. As a guest we should not have to ring a warden, you expect a warden to check the facilities regulary during the day. Especially as it is a Park Dean site.
The drain cover in the washing up area was missing.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The pitch was large.

Disliked Pretty much everything, unfortunately.
First, the facilities for the campsite are the worst that I have ever seen, and I have stayed at many campsites over the years. There was a poo explosion over the disabled toilet and the door was left open with a ‘wet floor’ sign. The shower was filthy, the toilets were very dated. The washing up area was dirty, there were dirty wet tissues blocking one sink, the other looked like someone had washed their muddy boots in and left all their dinner scraps in there, with no thought whatsoever that others needed to wash their pots in those very sinks!
Avoid the food at ‘Coast.’ I had half a roast chicken which was so tough it was like cooking steak and my son and partner had a ‘beef’ burger, although they described it as ‘mystery meat’ that wasn’t properly cooked. We paid £5 for approximately half a small ciabatta of garlic bread and in total for the 3 of us with 3 mains, 3 drinks (which should’ve been Pepsi max but we’re wishing washy) and 2 cookie dough cookies (just banged in the microwave) it cost us just under £90! Not worth the cost or the waiting time.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Le calme du lieu.

Disliked Les sanitaires sont très éloignés de l'emplacement des tentes comme les points d'eau. Et pas possible d'accéder aux activités avec son chien.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Excellent resort like camping spot, stunning views out to sea from my pitch. Good onsite facilities for both adults and kids (by the look of it, I was solo traveling) Food was excellent, Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Wifi was good up at the main buildings, nothing down on the pitches, but I did have 4G on my phone.

Disliked My pitch was quite a long way away from the toilets, and there only seems to be one block where we were on the site (now, I might be wrong here, and i did not just find others. I did ask other campers they had not found any either) so they were heavily used. I never had to wait but cleanliness did suffer very slightly.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Location

Disliked Had problems with wifi and electric hookup when I arrived, plus my pitch did not exist! Phone number either just gives you a recording or sends you through to Parkdean main switchboard and no help whatsoever for a pitch enquiry. Had to go all the way back to the reception, who had all gone home by 6pm and the man who was there could not help. (Not his fault). Each day then I had more people encroach on my pitch as the spacing was incorrect and tents and vehicles were so close - a fire hazard. I was off and about exploring each day so not a problem but caused unease. Not a site I would go back to as a solo traveller but the location is amazing.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Location is amazing, beautiful beaches. Good play park for kids and well stocked shop. Joes diner take away does really tasty food! When we first arrived, we weren’t sure we were going to stay the three night we had booked, largely because of the toilet blocked, but we did stay and had a great time - if you can live with the dirty toilets, the location is worth it!

Disliked The toilet block was disgustingly, the worst we’ve seen. Swimming pool unavailable our whole stay as it needs to be booked online well in advance of stay

Local attractions

Dornoch, the pretty little town nearest to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park, has a range of small independent shops, a cathedral dating back to 1224 and one of the best championship golf courses in the world. Otherwise, if you fancy a day trip, there’s a decent variety of things to do nearby. For a fairytale castle with a French flavour, take a tour of Dunrobin Castle, which stages falconry displays twice daily in its beautiful grounds; Black Isle Wildlife Park has child-pleasing meerkats, lemurs and zebras; whisky lovers can wet their whistle at the Glenmorangie Distillery; and the spectacular waterfalls at Falls of Shin are one of the best places in Scotland to see salmon feats of derring-do as the fish leap upstream between May and September, or to go geocaching, walking and cycling along the forest trails. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, it’s an easy drive to classic destinations such as John O’Groats, Loch Ness and Ullapool.
