  • Spacious wild-style campsite overlooking Taunton Vale in Somerset
  • Taunton 15 minutes' drive; Lyme Regis three quarters of an hour
  • Family-friendly, with a shallow stream and simple play area
Looking for camping without the big crowds? After a wild-style site where you'll have plenty of room to yourself? Then wend your way towards Wild Whitty, a small and intimate site in the gorgeous Somerset countryside around Curland. Sitting in Taunton Vale and with lovely rural views, this family-run, family-focused site is based on a 30-acre smallholding. You can pitch up on a number of plots here, surrounded by wildflowers or down by a meandering shallow stream where kids can safely plan (under adult supervision, of course). After a spot of fossil-hunting around the water, younger guests can build dens (materials are provided) or head to a small basic play area and amuse themselves. There's a lot of wildlife around here, plus a couple of resident sheep and a few chickens – what more could you ask for? Facilities include a large oak picnic bench which can comfortably seat up to 10. Firepits are provided and wood is sold on site. Freshly-prepared breakfast boxes can be ordered in advance and home-made cakes and ice creams are sold. In terms of essentials, there is a hot shower and composting loo located in a wagon house, where there's also limited solar-powered USB charging available.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely hosts - made us feel very welcome & the service was very smooth. The pitches were a great size & spacious - all areas had wild flowers in between which was both beautiful as well as providing a bit more privacy. My son absolutely loved the go karts, rope swings & zip line. There were beautiful walls around the owners land too. Highly recommend.

Disliked: Although they were extremely clean & brand new - the utility facilities were minimal. If there were a few families have on site sharing 1 shower, 1 toilet, 1 sink I think it could potentially cause an issue.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really this Campsite was lovely, has a wild feel about it. Each pitch has a lovely bubble where you pitch and you can get a clear line of sight from anywhere across to a communal area where kids can play. Play equipment defiantly for slightly older children not toddlers. Mine had a great time, den building and rock hunting along the stream. Go carts were a big win too. Great fun had racing around mown out pathways when camp site was empty and ferrying 'special' rocks to and from stream. Owners were excellent, friendliest hunch we've come across yet. Very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. Facilities just right, shower was lovely and compost loo well maintained.

Disliked: There isn't anything I can say I disliked about this site.
