Scenic countryside setting

  • Family-run park on a former stud farm and in a wildlife haven
  • Two and a half miles from the coast
  • Heated outdoor pool, bar, café, shop, takeaway and craft centre
Dithering re which setting you prefer for holiday accommodation – walks in the countryside versus hoofing it to the nearest beach? Try a countryside break by the sea at friendly and family-run Whitehill Country Park. On a former stud farm with converted stables and stone farm buildings, Whitehill is in a wildlife haven deep in the Devon countryside but only two and a half miles from the sands of the English Riviera: guaranteed, of course, to keep all sorts of neigh-sayers happy. Nature fans will champ at the bit to delve into the 40 acres of hill, woodland and countryside around the park, where 130 species of flora and ferns can be recorded neatly in nature-spotting notebooks and where local wildlife abounds: look out for badgers, kestrels, pheasants and buzzards among others. Meanwhile, beach buoys and girls will find the nearest sands only a couple of miles away: it’s but a short drive to the beaches of Paignton, Torquay and Brixham, and onto the 20 or so first-class beaches along this 22-mile stretch. On site there's a heated outdoor pool, plenty of play areas, walking trails, and nature all around; the park has won awards for its approach to wildlife management and conservation. Also around are letterboxing opps, a treasure trail to keep the little treasures occupied, and all the cons of a mod site such as a takeaway, café, shop and supping alfresco while watching the sun go down from the terrace at the Hayloft bar. Those who feel artistic can draw and paint in the indoor Shire Craft Centre; table tennis and a pool table are also on hand for indoor play.

What customers say

Whitehill Country Park gets the thumbs up for clean facilities, sound staff, and great swimming pools. Grand for families with loads to do. Handy spot for seeing the sights. Just a few grumbles about uneven pitches and iffy Wi-Fi now and then.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Really loved the campsite. So many parks for the kids to go to and the wooded area for the kids to explore. Was clean and tidy and the pool was good. And the takeaway pizza was good too. Highly recommend.

Disliked Only that the shop had limited selection on chilled products no bacon and no sausages

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely site very clean and tidy , plenty of toilets and showers, pitches plenty big enough they do slope a bit so need ramps but not an issue , water points everywhere nice pool and little entertainment venue staff are very friendly and helpful, bus stop at site to make it easy to travel comes every 2 hours

Disliked The lane is narrow on approach but just try not to go on bus times 1.45, 3.45 just to help you out
Wi-Fi is not the best I didn’t mind but can interpret if using tv fire stick

Electric grass pitch

Liked Pool was beautiful. Bus stop by entrance to Paignton (can get most places from there) Lovely walk to Stoke Gabriel. Toilets and showers always clean. Hayloft great staff, attentive, nice game of pool and good music. Shop well stocked and friendly staff. Beautiful birds :) especially robins.

Disliked Pylons close to pitch, would have been nice to know and be further away if possible. Large trees overhanging our pitch (a bit scary in high winds in a tent). It wasn’t safe to walk anywhere from site due to a busy road with no footpaths. Very poor WiFi at peak times.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (sloping)

Liked Beautiful site. It feels like ypu are in the middle of nowhere, but shops, pubs and beaches wre all within a short drive.
Fantastic facilities and lovely staff. Wonderful indoor/outdoor pools. Free wifi. Shower/toilet block was spotlessly clean. A lovely, well stocked shop at very reasonable prices. We had a daily fresh, takeaway cream tea for two at only £5.99. We didn't visit the bar, entertainment facilities or cafe as the weather was so glorious that we sat by our tent every evening sharing a bbq with the local seagulls and a solitary robin who visited us daily 😀 A perfect holiday for couples, groups or families alike.

Disliked Our only complaint is that we didn't find this little gem sooner 😍

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely beautiful site, plenty to do loved the outdoor swimming pool, lovely woodland walk , close to beautiful beaches and we all had an amazing holiday, thankyou whitehill country park, would love to come back next summer.

Disliked Women’s showers were very outdated, and the water only stayed on for a few seconds so bit of a pain to keep turning shower back on would be better if the water stayed on for a bit longer, I could see that the toilet area had been refurbished to a high standard so hopefully the showers will be done too.

Local attractions

The sights and activities around this part of Devon will suit all tastes: Dartmoor for active adventures, Totnes and Dartmouth for history and heritage – and the 22 miles of the English Rivieria for beaches, watersports, fishing and boat trips. The closest beach to Whitehill Country Park is Goodrington, a mile south of Paignton. After you’ve stretched out on the red sands, there are a few other options to check out: learn about the history of the English Riviera at the free Seashore Centre, pedal your way around the boating lake, or take the kids to the waterslides and pools of Splashdown at Quaywest. The English Riviera is of course also Agatha Christie territory – Greenway House was her holiday home (also where David Suchet as Poirot filmed his last scenes. Sniff.) If you can’t make it to the annual Agatha Christie festival (tsk), amble along the 10 landmarks of the Agatha Christie Mile in Torquay; eight of the sites have clues spelling out the name of a Christie character. Hint: it’s probably not ‘Miss Marple’.
