Dogs welcome

  • Small peaceful site among the Paignton hills
  • Caravans for hire, all with space for picnic tables
  • Dogs welcome
It's safe to say a bon vista is pretty much guaranteed at this site, as it's set among the Paignton hills with smashing valley views… Bona Vista Holiday Park has static caravans for hire laid out on a one-acre site, all most carefully sited by the owners to make the most of the surrounding scenery, and with lots of extra little touches by the thoughtful family team. (Tea and milk waiting for you on arrival? Yes please.) The park is peaceful and car-free (car parking is at the front), leaving a good bit of space around each caravan for picnic tables and lazing about, and all pathways are lit after dark to keep everyone safe and secure. There's a kids' play area, laundry facilities and clothes airers around the site for guests' use; off site, Bona Vista is only a few miles from the beach and close to Paignton Zoo, Quaywest Waterpark and heaps of bon scenic hikes. And yet more… the Bona Vista amenities have been described by one very happy customer as 'the poshest campsite toilets I have ever seen' and include separate showers and loos for ladies and gents.

1 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Lovely and quiet site stayed in a two bedroom caravan with beautiful views,no cars near caravan they had to be parked on car park just yards away so you had privacy around your van , caravan was new and clean had everything you needed microwave full gas oven and hob, small under counter fridge with small freezer compartment , near to supermarkets 5 minutes in car and a bus stop few yards from site to take you into town centre , internet was excellent no problem with our phones and used our Amazon fire stick on our small tv which could have been a lot bigger our only complaint tv was very small ….

Disliked: Tv very small

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Very quiet site with countryside views. A short drive to all the main supermarkets and easy drive to the main towns and beaches. A bus stop at the site gates that accesses all of Torbay if you don't want to drive. Caravan had everything we needed. Extra additions included access to washer and dryer for small charge and an iron. The caravan also came with the use of a hoover. Our caravan had an enclosed deck that had sun most of the day and view across the fields. Owners available on site.

Disliked: WiFi can come and go due to being out in the countryside however a booster was provided which helped. At peak times WiFi could got by sitting outside or on the carpark. Car park a little tight if all the guests have large cars but one space available for each caravan.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Peaceful site with lovely views. The caravan was great for what we wanted and the enclosed deck was great for the dog. The site is family run and they couldn’t be more helpful. This was our 2nd stay at this site, it won’t be our last.

Disliked: Wi-Fi is very hit and miss within the caravan depending on the time of day. The owners have tried to boost the signal as much as possible. A short walk resolves this if your need for Wi-Fi is urgent. Do what we did and put your phones away and enjoy the views. Note that there was an Openreach engineer on site as we left - so this may have been due to a problem.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Lovely views, friendly owners, peaceful, easy parking, Lovely little caravan site, caravan looked brand new, immaculately clean and so cosy. The site was nice and peaceful, we were probably the noisiest guests there that week lol. Very close to local supermarket which was brilliant for us.

Disliked: WiFi didn't work In our caravan which was a bit annoying

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The view was lovely and the caravan was immaculate and the owner was very friendly.

Disliked: The caravan was absolutely tiny, nowhere to put any food, toys or shoes so the living room was full of bags all week. No hooks on doors to hang wet towels, narrow shelves in bedrooms - our clothes kept falling off. The shower fell apart in our hands. There was no play area despite what the website says.. just a small gravel area where a caravan used to be with a broken swingball on it…. Our two boys had nowhere to burn off steam outside, it was really hard work for all of us. No Wi-Fi either… such a shame, it meant our only family holiday was cramped, fractious and uncomfortable for the duration.

From the manager: We are sorry you did not enjoy your holiday. This is a brand new caravan, the size of which is stated on the booking( although does not include the additional decking this particular unit has) and although there are no hooks on doors we do provide a washing line outside the door for your use. We live on site so would have been happy to fix anything such as the "shower that fell apart in your hands" if we were made aware of any problems. We hope you find somewhere to suit your tastes for your next holiday.

1 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Great location. The caravan was very new, fresh and clean. Site is quiet, private and felt safe. Although the caravan could be described as basic it had everything we needed e.g. utensils, pans, cutlery etc, all of which was nice and clean. Heaters and fire all worked well. Great value for money.

Disliked: Tv on the small side and the signal quite intermittent. Didn’t really bother us though. Not really a dislike but something to bear in mind is the size of the caravan. We hired a one bed as it was just us two and our 7 month old. With the sheer amount of stuff you bring on holiday with a baby it proved slightly too small. I would recommend going for a two bed.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: Bona Vista is near a local bus stop serving the Plymouth to Torquay route and stopping at various popular tourist places on the way like Paignton Zoo, Totnes, and Torquay and Paignton town centres. Boat trips and deep sea fishing are both available from the nearby old fishing village of Brixham, also home of the replica of Sir Frank Drake's circumnavigating ship the Golden Hind. A few golf courses are in the area too, or you could check out other local places to see such as Paignton pier, Goodrington Park and its boating lake, Pennywell Farm, the aquarium Living Coasts, Dartmouth and the Britannia Royal Naval College, and seeing the spectacular sights from Torquay’s Babbacombe Cliff Railway.
