This well-kept spot gets top marks for spotless, modern facilities, especially the showers. Visitors rave about the heated outdoor pool, sound staff, and roomy pitches. Direct Tarka Trail access is brilliant for cyclists and walkers. Minor Wi-Fi and shop stock issues were mentioned, but most are keen to return.

Disliked Not a dislike as such .. bit disappointed that a small MB of WI-FI free - top up required if you need to stream anything in reality.

Electric grass and gravel campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had a fab few days at Smytham Holiday Park. It is very clean and tidy. The toilet and shower blocks were always clean whatever time of day or night we used them. The pitch size was great. We certainly didn’t feel we were on top of our neighbours and visa versa.
The pool was a pleasant temperature, again, very clean.
The play ground kept my younger child entertained. A large area for a kick about with my eldest.
We liked the variety of food trucks that came each night. The bar has a lovely deck area, it is reasonably priced too.
All in all we really liked our stay and have all said we would like to go back.

Disliked The only negative I have is that the free WiFi ran out quickly. I could have chosen to have better wifi but there was a cost to that. I chose not to pay for it as we didn’t need it as there were plenty of other things to do.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite with friendly staff and stunning countryside and nature surrounding it. Very clean toilet and shower facilities, nice feel to the place. We saw baby deer, hare and a fox only a short walk from the campsite. Nice little friendly bar and shop and activities like walking the alpacas were fantastic.

Disliked We were behind the swimming pool, which is just a grey wall and it could get noisy in the day when the pool was full. But the weather was hot so to be expected and wouldn't stop us going again. Would have liked some more food options but again it wouldn't stop us going.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked I liked everything about this site. The shower and toilet blocks were in great condition and the water was always hot. The washing up facilities were brilliant, the first site I've ever been on that had a dishwasher!
We loved the swimming pool, especially having sometime in the morning for serious swimming before opening up to those that wanted to play.
There was plenty of space on the pitches and the whole site was well maintained. The reception shop stocked lots of items and at affordable prices, it was great to see and to not feel like we were being ripped off, as so many other places do.
The woods on the site were beautiful and being able to hire bikes to ride on the Tarka Trail was a lovely experience.
There was a variety of food vans that came every evening, some were quite highly priced which put us off buying from them. The chip van and the pizza van were very good.
We have already told all our friends about Smytham holiday park and planning on booking here for the future. The location of the site is also brilliant, in such good proximity to lots of lovely places to see and thigs to do. The young lady that worked there, with dark hair and glasses, was really lovely, very helpful and always polite.

Disliked People who booked 'all weather' pitches were expected to put thier tents on the gravel and have a grassed area next to them as a fire gap. It made more sense and comfort for the fire gap to be the gravelled area, so the tents could be pitched on the grass.

Local attractions

The 180 miles of the Tarka Trail are accessible from Smytham Holiday Park, following the route of Tarka the otter from the Henry Williamson book. Elsewhere, hire a bike in nearby Great Torrington for the easy 11-mile pedal along the banks of the Torridge river to Bideford; if walking, head out straight from the site or catch a bus from Great Torrington to explore the four-mile trail from Weare Giffard. The area is a wildlife haven: the North Devon Biosphere was one of the first six UNESCO biosphere sites designated in the UK and covers an area from the heights of Dartmoor and Exmoor down via the sea to Lundy Island. Nature of a different sort can be seen at Bideford’s famed and decidedly individual The Big Sheep and one of dozens of days out in Devon suitable for the kids: take the family along also to the Milky Way Adventure Park, also in Bideford, or to the clay shooting and zorbing of Barnstaple’s Southdown Adventure Park. Plant fans should visit the 65 acres of RHS Rosemoor, a mile from the manor, and Hartland Abbey and Gardens at Bideford, a 12th-century abbey with restored woodland gardens.
