Great views
Great-sized level pitches
Lots of space
A new outside shower, a wetsuit wash, and a sunny, private drying area.

  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with large, level pitches and communal freezers
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

Electric optional gravel motorhome pitch (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Peace and quiet on the site which is why we booked this site.

Disliked On a corner pitch by the tap and washrooms so people walking past all the time but it was OK. Washrooms clean and had everything you needed.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Kim for your kind words. Feel free to call me and request a particular pitch next time in a quieter corner spot. Regards. Stu.

Electric optional grass campervan, trailer tent or tent pitch

Liked Facilities. Proximity to the beach.Close to town.

Disliked Pitches quite close to each other. No ball games was not enforced and in what is a quite cramped site was unacceptable.Twice unchecked teenagers kicked the ball at my van.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We have many signs saying no ball games after 9pm and even a dedicated football area away from everyone. Sadly some kids and families are less responsible than others during the busy kids holidays. I hope you are able to visit us at a quieter time of year. Stu.

I wouldn’t be going back as I prefer a more rural campsite.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great toilet /shower block and washing up area. Very clean. Great to have rules on noise and guests on to the site. Good central location to town and beach.

Disliked Great to have your own pitch area however it did feel really squished in. Too many tents on such a small site for me. Not enough area for kids to run about and play. Our pitch backed on to the town car park and kids play area so could be noisy from outside the campsite.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Rebecca for your honest review. I think our pitches are a good size but I take your point that it could feel busy during the kids summer holidays. We are very popular at that time. We now have a new dedicated play area for kids to kick about separated from the camping pitches. I hope you are able to come back at a quieter time of year. Regards. Stu.

Electric optional grass campervan, trailer tent or tent pitch

Liked Family campsite, very quiet, no dogs. Near to amenities

Disliked No privacy in showers

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi,
Did you not find the large new showers through the washup area and turn right?
They are individual, lockable, and completely private, open to anyone on site.
Regards,
Stu.

Electric optional grass campervan or trailer tent pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Location excellent.
Lovely flat pitches.
Nice simple touches like washing up liquid provided and bin bags etc.

Disliked No music policy. Whilst I respect this and the reasons, I feel some low level music in daytime hours (as long as it’s within your camp space volume) wouldn’t be an issue.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Rachel. I appreciate your feedback. I tried low level music to start with but people will be people and it all went south really quickly. So no music at any time was the only way and in general it's the best thing, considering tents don't contain sound. See you soon. Stu.

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
