  • Off-grid farm site outside Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey
  • Views over the Thames Estuary and a 10-minute drive from beaches
  • Meet the farm animals on site and buy free-range eggs for breakfast
Cooking up a few fresh free-range eggs for a cracking Kent coastal breakfast? What a way to start the day. That terrific view out over the Thames Estuary isn’t the only option as breakfast backdrop for guests at Clifftop Camping though. Pitches at this scenic Isle of Sheppey farm site are sorted on a pick-your-own basis, so you’re welcome to meander around the meadow, woodland and pond areas too before selecting a spot in which to settle. And those eggs? Well, they’re from the hens that reside on this working farm. You can buy their offerings while you’re staying here, and meet their pals too: the current roster includes sheep, goats, horses, ponies, ducks and rheas. This is an off-grid site so you’ll need to step away from the gadgets – but sea views trump screen time anyway, eh?. It’s also pretty stripped-back on the facilities front, but there is one compost toilet and one tented chemical toilet, and you can access water in the farmyard. For eats and supplies, a couple of pubs and shops are a mile away in Eastchurch; bigger supermarkets, restaurants and the like are 10 minutes’ drive away in Sheerness. Ins and outs should be fairly easy here, as you’re only around a 20-minute drive from the M2 and an hour or so from London. If you’d rather roam on public transport, there’s a bus connection to Eastchurch from Sheerness station.

Liked Family camp for weekend with best ever 5hr lightening show to keep some of us enthralled.great setting as host says this is basic camping no amenities other than stand pipe and compost loo..but the major upside no issues about having campfire..we brought our own and have left it for others to use.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked My first time to Clifftop Camping and was warmly welcomed by Catherine (Thank You) and my first time as solo female camper.
I loved the simplicity of the location, just a compost toilet and tap to really get back to nature. The location was the perfect place for me to get away from it all for a night and just enjoy being outdoors. The views are lovely, as was both sunrise and sunset during my stay. I'll definitely be back

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We absolutely loved this natural cliff top and woodland site. Perfect for a motorhome to get away from it all as there are as expected no facilities except for a water tap and a compost loo. What more do you need off grid! Spacious pitch in a lovely meadow. Super helpful owner, thank you Catherine for going the extra mile for us. Delightful morning walk round site waking up to birds and spotting rabbits and dragon flies followed by a sea swim.

Stunning camping location. Facilties are a compost toilet and a tap.

Local attractions

If you’ve picked a place called Clifftop Camping it’s highly likely you’ll be after a bit of coast action. The quickest way to get it is to clamber down the cliffs (easier than it might sound; no abseiling needed) for a quiet little beach with some fab sea fishing to be done. Other options nearby include Minster Leas beach (10 minutes’ drive) and Shellness beach (20 minutes), where there's also a naturist area for folk seeking a skinny dip. Active types are well sorted for things to keep them busy too: saddle up at the stables five minutes away, tee off at Sheerness Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) or breeze over to Barton's Point Coastal Park (10 minutes) for a nature trail, adventure playground and watersports. For a nod to travels of the past, it’s off to Eastchurch Aviation Museum (five minutes) or a narrow-gauge ride on the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway (20 minutes). Doddington Place Gardens are just over half an hour away if you’re more interested in gentle wanderings.
