General

  • Family-run Kent farm site overlooking its own vineyard
  • Between 20 and 25 minutes from The Hop Farm and Leeds Castle
  • Many more vineyards nearby: help available to arrange tours/tastings

You may have heard that the lush county of Kent has rather a few vineyards. Over 50, in vino fact, many of which should be ambled around on a Kent holiday of any type to source many souvenirs (of the clinking glass variety).

And if you're keen to source Kent wine but don't want to go too far? Bed down at the green and spacious setting of Far Acre Farm, 12 miles from Tonbridge, where a vineyard has been flourishing opposite the farm since 2010, to produce still and sparkling wines from pinot noir, pinot meunier, bacchus and chardonnay grapes: bottles and cases are available, of course, to buy (the team particularly recommends its sparkling blanc de noir).

Far Acre also has easy access to local attractions such as The Hop Farm, Bedgebury, Sissinghurst and Leeds Castle. It's close too to other Kent vineyards if your samples here make you eager to meander further; the Far Acre owners can arrange tours and tastings if you let them know in advance.

The site covers two and a half acres of handsome and level Weald of Kent ground, in a region once famed for its hops and apples and now known for its home-produced sparkling wines. It's a family-friendly and pet-friendly place, with plenty of room for roaming, playing or canine-led walkies, and is in a splendid setting for evening campfires (with wine), using the Far Acre upcycled fire baskets and firewood.

Amenities include showers and toilets, a washing-up area, charging facilities, chemical disposal and ice pack freezing.

Excellent location with vineyard on site. Large pitches that didn’t feel too close to pitches either side. On site recycling. Basic toilet/shower/washing up facilities however everything was clean and water was hot.

    Disliked:

Toilet block could do with a refresh. Only one shower in each of the male & female toilets. Not a problem with the site quiet on our visit but may be an issue at busier times

A lovely peaceful little site overlooking the vineyard.

My 11 yr old son I had a few days away together and enjoyed being able to have an open fire pit to toast marshmallows and not far for a trip to Bodiam on Saturday.

Lots of room for kids to run around and the pitches were well spaced and not on top of each other.

    Lovely part of the country!

    Disliked:

To be fair nothing major, considering the price you pay and that the site is a little more on the wild camping side!

Ideally could have done with a little more room in the washing up area as even with 2 sinks it was a little tight for 2 people in there.

The shower and toilet block is perfectly functional, but with only one cubicle loo and one shower etc.

I personally found the shower cubicle a bit of a tight fit with not many places to put clothes or bags etc. while in there ... but as said again nothing major!

Good location but site needs alot of TLC.05/17/2022

Location was excellent to see surrounding attractions.

    Disliked:

The poor state of camping field. The whole field had been cut and the grass just left in big clumps over entire field results in grass being trampled inside tent, car and the toilet block. Never seen any thing like it! It was also a fire hazard as camp fires were allowed. The toilet/shower block needs pulling down and replacing it was disgusting. There was a broken cistern in the ladies with a towel underneath and the whole place stank. There was a note on the toilet door saying it would be fixed as soon as possible but don't know when that was put on there! Dead flies all over the place, it was filthy. I am used to wiping shower and floor after use at campsites, but the block wasn't cleaned once whilst we were there. Two other couples arrived whilst we were there and left early because how awful the site was. It is a shame because with some TLC this could be an amazing site.

The site was nicely equipped and managed by the friendly hosts. All the faculties were up to a nice standard and there was everything we needed. The hosts were readily available from a phone call and made sure all water etc was warm for us and provided us with the equipment needed for having a campfire at a good price. The location was nice and provided a relaxing environment for us whilst not being too far from any needed locations e.g shops.

Needs updating04/19/2022

The larger pitch and the view over the vines.

    Disliked:

Long cut grass, wet clumps everywhere that stuck to your shoes.
No hot water most of the time for showers and washing up, had to heat the water ourselves on the stove.
No confirmation email we were told that we should have had one for gate code and pitch number, had to phone a number get code then wait in the field until eventually someone gave us an allocated pitch.
Seriously needs up dating if this field had been full there wouldn’t have been enough facilities.

From the manager...

Dear Peter,
We are sorry to see your review posted again on pitchup.com.
We do apologise for the lack in communication regarding pitch details and how to use the facilities; we have recently been updating our system and you unfortunately booked during one of the editing stages, so you were missed out of some vital information regarding this. However, we were very disappointed in the rest of your review.
Firstly, the grass must be cut, and though we know cut grass and rain can be very inconvenient, it is vital that we keep our grass cut and our site maintained. Secondly, there is nothing that we can do to change background noise that is made in the local area, for example the road and the bird scarer (although we do not believe it was actually a bird scarer, it was likely local farmers shooting as it is a very common rural practice). The facilities we have exceed the requirements for our size of site several times over and they are maintained well.
Over the duration of your stay, we did come over to the campsite to ask if everything was okay and none of these points such as not very hot water were raised.
Overall we do not think that this is a fair evaluation of our site which has many positive reviews.
Many thanks,
Far Acre

Giant jumping pillows, a petting farm and a kids' driving school are around for excitable small sorts, while bigger types should like the falconry centre and the 4D cinema.

The miles of walking and cycling trails of Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, and the famed Grade I-listed gardens of Sissinghurst Castle are both 15 minutes away.
