Heading East Sussex way? If you’re looking for that heady combination of peace, a warm welcome and country views, make a beeline for Cairds Camping and Caravanning Site, 10 minutes’ drive from the village of Wadhurst and set among pretty rural scenery. There are a myriad of walks directly from the family-run site, as well a range of visitor attractions from majestic gardens to activity centres – that’s if you can bear to leave your pitch, as they all give you great vistas across the surrounding fields and woodlands. Your dogs are welcome to join your rambles and explorations, but please keep them on a lead at all times when on site. Locally there are plenty of pretty villages tucked away in the East Sussex countryside that hide traditional pubs – the nearest being Burwash (five minutes’ drive). If you need a quick top-up on supplies, Wadhurst has a few small shops, and for bigger shopping sprees, Tunbridge Wells (25 minutes) will see you right. And the practical bits? Facilities include communal showers, a washing-up area and drinking-water points across the site. Should you prefer to fend for yourselves instead of making a beeline for a pub, you can hire firepits on site as well as buy logs for the fire.
