  • Peaceful family-run park on the Cumbria coast three miles from Silloth
  • Lake District half an hour's drive; 40 minutes to Carlisle
  • Dog-friendly site with access to a long sandy beach
A west-facing site is a lovely thing, allowing you to spend the evening raising a glass (and/or a sausage from the barbecue) to the colourful sunset unfolding in front of you. The only thing that could make this picture even better? A sea view to go with your sunset… and that's exactly what you can expect at Rowanbank Caravan Park. This peaceful family-run park is on the Cumbria coast, five minutes’ drive south of Silloth and right next to a huge sandy beach that's a popular spot for fishing, dog walks and long coastal strolls. Dogs are, of course, welcome on site as well… You'll be just outside the Solway Coast National Landscape here, so there are plenty more walking options around there, or in the northern parts of the Lake District National Park, which is about half an hour's drive away. Add in a championship golf course, a go-kart track, a wildlife park and several historic sites nearby and you should have a location with something to suit most tastes when it comes to days out. This is a laidback and friendly site with simple facilities in the form of toilets, showers, a washing-up area, an Elsan point and a launderette. Bring a barbecue along and you'll be able to load it with supplies from the small supermarket in Silloth, which is also a handy place to find cafés and takeaways (fish and chips on the beach, anyone?)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very green grass.

Disliked For £20 a person to camp this was very very pooe value. Totally unsuitable unless you have your own vehicle. Its a long walk to Siloth for food.

The tap worked.

The cows were interesting.

That sums up the facilities, and as I say for £20 it's nor good enough.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nothing really

Disliked Seemed like this was just a toilet for dog walkers on the caravan site not what I would expect when having to put your tent on the ground, when booking said there was 3 places left so thought there would be plenty of people there for the size of field but no just us if I new this wouldn’t of booked as we like to have a crack ect , not to sure on facilities as we didn’t use them and just wanted to get away

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked The friendly welcome and best wishes for our onward journey were the best parts of the whole stay - Rowanbank is very lucky to have such a great man.
Payment was straight forward. The EHU was straightforward annd drinking water was close by. Clear instructions on how to use the barrier and choice of level well spaced out pitches was given.

Disliked The whole site is in a real desperate need of a major update. Looks and feels like the 1970’s. Comes across as a family cash cow with no investment being made to provide facilities worthy for 2025. The dilapidated showers were so very bad I couldn’t face having one and the toilet and dish washing sinks’ water wasn’t particularly hot. The concept of recycling has not reached Rowanbank as yet either.

Liked A really peaceful site, very friendly and welcoming. Although I agree with other comments about the shower block in need of a bit of an upgrade, everywhere was perfectly clean and tidy. Wonderful location, we really enjoyed our stay.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Clear instructions when arriving and a well maintained site. The staff were very approachable and helpful. Specifically Bob the site manager, on hand to answer any questions and went above and beyond for us when we had an issue with our trailer. He also ensured we have suitable ground for our next planned trip. Overall it was a lovely experience and would highly recommend.

Disliked The only downside to this site is that the toilet/shower block could do with an update as it is quite dated. However it was clean and did the job.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Campsite was lovely, nice space to put the tents. Not too far a walk from the toilet block and it was clean with spacious showers and a laundry room available. The owner was friendly on arrival. It was such good value for money and will be booking again ☺️
